Kindergarteners do not come in on a level playing field when it comes to academics, but they do all come in "Wide Eyed " and full of wonderment. Tapping into their altruistic nature and nurturing their sense of compassion for others is an important value to preserve. Kindergarteners are compassionate about exploring, creating and helping. I'd like to give them the opportunity to use 21st Century skills such as learning technology, working collaboratively and being productive. We've created a MAKER SPACE in our school which gives children the opportunity to think outside of the box. I'd like to take it to the next level and work with them to create an invention that may help someone in the community such as our Senior Citizens. Having a 3D printer will allow us to create an "invention" beyond a "macaroni necklace" that would be sustainable and useable. The Cricut would give the Kindergarteners autonomy when creating and coding their project. They could design on the iPad and then create dimensional projects with the Cricut. Allowing children to create and problem solve through technology and multidimensional materials and not just focus on paper and pencil tasks, just may inspire a future engineer, architect or scientist.
