I believe that everyone is a reader and just needs the right book to turn them on to the power of storytelling through reading. My students need your help to access a library of books that represent their diverse backgrounds, culture and experiences. In order to develop a better relationship with books and reading, I am determined to provide my students with the resources that they deserve, especially during this time of uncertainty, so that by the end of the year we will hear more, "I love that book!" or "Can we get that book?" or "I see myself!" This project is designed for students to have a partner in reading so that they can share in the fundamentals of building reading skills, but more importantly, a trusted thought partner with whom to share about their choice books. We need many more texts for our classroom library that represent my students and their interests! My goal is to amplify representation in order to build more reading love together and be empowered to make change. We need less textbook-based literacy practice and more student-driven and student-centered practice. What better way to start to do this than by having ample and high-interest book choices for students to read in class and at home? Many of the requested selections are representative of diverse experiences and identities from gender, ethnicity, and culture, to current events and teen experience.
