Time for Nap, Part 2
Funded Aug 31, 2015The cots sheets have helped with my student's transition to nap time. They all knew that they were going to nap in class. Some looked scared and didn't want to go lie down on their cops. Then one child noticed that that cot sheet looked like a bed sheet just like at home. When other students saw her go down on her cot, the other students weren't as hesitant.
After a full day of activities, my students need nap time to rest up. The cot sheets have made the process a lot more comfortable. It's always a little scary going into a new situation, especially when you're parents aren't their to hold your hand. This simple thing has made nap time so much easier and I thank you for your help once again.”

Keeping Our Classroom Clean
Funded Apr 18, 2015Thank you all so much for donating to this project. You have helped my students both this year and last year help to stay clean and healthy. My students are an eager bunch for students. As with all eager learners, they cannot help but to literally get their hands into everything. Then only way to help them out of this mess is to have supplies which will help to keep them clean. Paper towels and soap are gold in my classroom. The tables in the room are always getting dirty, but it is a sign that they are learning and getting their hands into everything as they are learning and experiment. We as the teachers just need the help take sure it is clean and safe for there next activity.
The supplies that you have provided in project luckily lasted us past the last school year and my students this year are able to still get a good use out of them. Thank you for your help.”

International Literacy Conference to the Rescue
Funded Mar 10, 2015Thank you so much for donating to this project. The conference was a wonderful opportunity to meet with teachers across the country where I had the opportunity to sit in on workshops where I was able to update my craft. Speakers such as Pam Allyn helped to reinvigorate me as a teacher. She provided new ways to approach teaching in light of the changes in the curriculum due to the Common Core.
I have been able to bring back practices to my classroom that I plan to implement in the coming month. I know that without your generous donations, I would not have these new ideas to bring to my class, as well as having a new outlook and refresh me with new teaching ideas. Thank you so much for supporting this project.”

Funded May 1, 2015My students love their new STEM building materials. They have been building to their little hearts content! I have seen my students discussing with each other how to put together the pieces to create buildings, cars and other structures. I am so glad to see my students problem solve and try to build structures that can withstand the height and weight of different materials, such as bears and cars inside. Why does one fall apart? and how can they be remade so that it doesn't fall apart?
Building structures is one of their favorite activities, they also love seeing how they can keep objects from sinking and how to keep them afloat. I know that these materials are getting the brains of my students moving as they figure out who to solve problems and create solutions.”

Funded Apr 17, 2015Thank you all for donating to this project. My students were all mesmerized by the instant camera. When the images started showing up on the photographic paper, they were shocked to see the pictures appear so fast. They couldn't wait to take more pictures. Over the last few months, they have been able to capture many moments of the trips that we have gone on, including the farm, the Environmental Center and upstate New York to release our pet trout into the river.
The Polaroids that we have taken are being added to their scrapbooks, so that they have memories to keep for years to come. Thank you once again for providing this camera and film to my students!”

Our Trip to Release Our Trout Into Nature
Funded Mar 22, 2015Thank you all so much for donating to this project. It was a trip that students and parents are still talking about, days later. This charted bus took us up to Westchester where my students happily helped to release the trout fingerling that we have raised from eggs. They learned so much more about how trout swim upstream to look for food, as well as see for themselves first hand how the rocks, leaves and roots of trees help to camouflage these fingerling trout from predators.
After releasing the trout into the river, my students examined insects and plants that the trout would be eating to survive and get bigger. I have never seen my students this excited about learning about bugs and closely looking at them. My students even went on a little hike up the trial. Many of the parents and children have never gone on a hike or crossed wooden bridges. I am happy to say that none of the kids complained about the walk. Along the way, they smelled skunk cabbage, looked at pine needles, looked at the effects of lightening hitting trees, as well as watching nature pass them by as they were walking.
Your generosity helped to make the end of this project come to life and it is something that they will hopefully remember for years to come. Thank you once again.”

T-Shirts to Stay Safe on Trips, Year 6
Funded Feb 8, 2015Thank you all so much for helping to donate to this project. It means a lot to my students and myself. We have gone on our first trip and these shirts were a great addition to this day. When my students saw these shirts come out of the box, they asked why we were getting these shirts. When I told them it was for when we go on trips, they were so happy. After they put them on, it felt really good to see them in the shirts. It made them look like a little team, rather than just a class. They loved these shirts and were showing it off to people who walked into the class. When we were on out trip, it was wonderful knowing how our shirts were different from the other schools around us and that made keeping an eye on them so much easier. Thank you for helping to make my students safe on very important learning experiences outside of the classroom.”

Rise Up Little Seed
Funded Jan 12, 2015Thank you so much for donating to this project. My students have had so much fun watching their herbs grow from seed to "big plant". I know that they especially love going over to the aerogarden and making observations. Over the course of the past few weeks, they have noted how it has gotten bigger.
I believe that the best learning experience that they have so far is that they now know that if they rub the leaves, they can smell the herbs fragrance on their fingers. They would go over during play time and rub their fingers across the leaves and have their classmates smell their fingers. When we visit the botanic garden and enter the smelling garden, they will already know that some plants will have a smell and be excited about learning herbs and how they help in making our dishes taste wonderful! Thank you all for helping my students learn about the wonder of plants and herbs.”

Becoming A Better Teacher For My Students
Funded Feb 25, 2015Thank you so much again for donating to this project. I have learned so much from the professional development materials that you have so generously helped to fund. It is not always easy to think about new and innovative ideas to teach new ideas and lessons. I have pored over the books and have gotten many useful ideas that have made learning about community helpers, plants and insects so much more interesting to my students.
Colleagues have also been able to look over these books and have gotten ideas which helped with their teaching practice. Students who are very precocious are proudly reading books that are appropriate for their arcading abilities thanks to the leveling kit. You have helped to inspire me with new ideas to teach my students, and I thank you.”
