With everything going on in the world today, I felt it was time to decolonize my classroom library. I found I had only filled a shelf and a half with “a diverse representation” of books, leaving over half of my bookshelf, empty. Our bookshelf is in need of more Black and Brown authors and characters who better reflect our demographics and lived experiences of our students. We also need more texts that represent characters and authors from the LGBTQ community. It is my goal to have an all-inclusive and representative classroom library for all and of all of my students.
