Snacks for Students!
Funded Sep 24, 2021My students and I are truly grateful for your gracious donation. Year after year, I have encountered students who have had no energy to participate in class, and usually put their heads down, unable to continue the lesson. When they are asked, it is often because they are hungry or thirsty.
This year is no different. On numerous occasions, I have had students complain of stomach aches, dizziness, hunger, and thirst. It is usually because they are hungry or thirsty, have not eaten breakfast or lunch was not sufficient. After they were given a small snack from the amazing donations, they seemed more energized and more aware.
When the students were first told they could always come to my classroom if they are ever in need of a small snack, they were super excited and truly happy. Although the snacks were chosen wisely, they were very content with the items, and enjoy them. They know that they can always tell me if they are hungry and that my classroom is always open for them whenever needed. Once again, words cannot express how much we are grateful and appreciative of your donations.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 5 other donors.Healthy Snacks for Healthy Minds!
Funded Mar 27, 2019My students were so excited and incredibly happy when they saw the snacks. Their lunch periods were so late in the day they usually could not focus during class and times felt sick. I was able to bring them snacks several times when they were feeling this way.
In addition, many of our students are allergic to a lot of the items in the cafeteria and knew that they always had access to snacks in my classroom. Most of the time they would come during lunch, complete their homework, and enjoy the snacks which gave them fuel for learning and continuing on throughout the day.
It also gets incredibly hot during the day and although we have water fountains the students needed easier access to water. They would drop in all the time when they were thirsty and ask for water because some of the fountains were not working properly. It is an incredible feeling to be able to provide food and water for students who are too hungry to focus or too thirsty and feel dehydrated. My students and I truly thank my donors for such an incredible gift as it helped students enormously!”

Classroom Supplies for Students with Needs
Funded Dec 20, 2018My students have been so happy with the new resources! Students were so excited to use the new items and were excited to see how everything would be used in the classroom. Students received desk organizers, chair pockets, world maps, and pencil grips. My students have immense trouble with organization as well as visualization so these new materials have helped our classroom tremendously. Some students were assigned as chair monitors and they are in charge of retrieving the folder with their classwork and homework assignments as well as collecting the items and placing them in the chair pockets. Students who are absent also know to go into the chair pocket, retrieve the folder with the missing work and place it in their binders. It has helped them become more responsible and organized.
Students were also very excited to use the World Maps. We started Ancient Greece and were able to use dry erase markers to locate the previous civilizations, surrounding oceans, present day countries and Greece. This allowed them to understand where these countries were in relation to us using the hands on dry erase world maps in pairs. They had a lot of fun using these maps and finally understood where each country was located through discussion and a fun group activity. As we begin studying Rome we will reintroduce the map and have them independently locate all of the previous civilizations we have studied and locate our new civilization and present-day Italy. They will be able to make inferences based on the geography of each country using the map, and use the dry erase markers to draw and write little notes on each country.
Lastly, I have students who still struggle with handwriting and writing. They were so happy to use the pencil grips and even request to use them when they are in my class and writing a longer piece. It allows them to grasp the pencil correctly and write for a longer amount of time. They have learned to be responsible and return the pencil grip to me after every class so that they can reuse it when they return. All in all, the students are filled with gratitude and immense happiness with the new tools and have been using everything to keep them organized. They know to return the colored pencils and highlighters to the desk organizers when they are finished and are color coded by groups! Thank you so much for helping my classroom and my students grow and progress in the classroom!”
