  • Overcoming Adversity through Diversity

    Funded Sep 3, 2020

Beyond grateful to have these books in the hands of my students. They will be so gratfeul to not have just a computer to teach and instruct them Thank you and I cannot wait to dive in with the Boy at the Back of the Class as we navigate our first unit: culture clash.”

  • A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words

    Funded Jul 31, 2018

Picture Books are amazing and I am so glad that I have the opportunity to share with my students. What a great way to open a lesson, support a lesson, get my students to discuss, and so much more. They are certainly NOT just for elementary classrooms.

For the last two school years, I have used these picture books to get my students hooked and engaged. My 7th grade unit on immigration is anchored by "I am Enough". We talk about what makes us unique and how we contribute and add to our communities.

Picture books are amazing to teach a variety of skills from writing, analyzing, and synthesizing. My students have greatly benefited from these wonderful additions to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moulton

  • Satisfying the Reader Habit

    Funded Oct 31, 2018

This year alone my students have had some amazing lessons completed in response to the wonderful books they've read. They have blogged, created memes, digital magazines, and have engaged in authentic conversations with themselves and peers.

Reading is done in multiple zones: home, individual, in groups, or as a whole. My students get at least thirty minutes of silent reading and another twenty minutes of discussion with books. These books have given students access and choice and we are thankful to those who donated.”

  • Green Screening for Learning

    Funded Oct 2, 2017

What an amazing time my students had using the technology to show not only their creativity but also their learning. Our journalism students started out the year learning the basics of Green screen through the Do-ink app so that they were able to create original Holiday projects. Our goal is that with the next school year is to develop a continuously running morning announcement using green screen technology.

The ability to use green screen allowed students who are great with technology to shine. they took leadership roles even though students fought to be directors. Integrating technology allows for students with different learning styles to have a safe space in the classroom and feel like a great contributor to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moulton

  • 4Cs of Learning

    Funded Apr 20, 2017

It has been an exciting time in my classroom as my students learn their way through new technology which means new ways to learn. They absolutely love the incorporation of technology which allows them to be creative, collaborate, think critically, and communicate with many.

The technology we have used that have grabbed my students is the use of Adobe Spark, Thinglink, Piccollage, and their learning portal through Microsoft Class Notebook. The ease of use especially with Class Notebooks and its accessibility options for my struggling readers and students with learning disabilities.

Sometimes it is easy to forget that not every child has access to IPADS, chromebooks, or even desktops and my goal is that at least for my students, to level the playing field and expose them to a wealth of things that will enhance their knowledge.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moulton

  • Newbie at ISTE Conference

    Funded Jun 2, 2017

What an experience! To be part of tens of thousands of educators who are committed to ensuring that our students have the skills and resources to be competitive in this revolutionary century that they are living in.

The conference brought the major players from Google, Microsoft and Apple along with software and app companies such as FlipGrid and Booksource to name a few under one roof to demonstrate for us how to revolutionize our classroom engagement, and how students demonstrate their knowledge and skills. I attended 24 hours worth of workshops by other teachers and platforms such as Adobe.

But I think the highlight of my conference was after an overwhelming three days, to walk into the Apple training room and in Apple fashion, it was understated, simple, and focused on the tool and the lesson. It was a great reminder for teachers to not lose focus on the purpose of technology. It doesn't replace, it enhances. The ultimate goal is to use it to deliver high quality instruction. Bells and whistles are just extras!”

  • Integrating Technology and Literacy

    Funded Mar 3, 2017

The moment I knew that integrating technology into my classroom was the best decision was when one of my 6th graders, reading on a K-2 level, was able to feel accomplished and successful. Not only was he able to complete a reading assignment by himself using PicCollage to add pictures to reflect his understanding, he was able to help other classmates as well. When you spend 7 hours, 5 days a week, 180 days a year in a place that you try to hide and not be noticed, he raised his hand to offer his help.

I see my students who gravitate to the different apps on the Ipad as well as helping to set them and the Chromebooks up. They are fascinated with them because they do not have access to these things in their daily lives. It isn't a fight to get an assignment completed but rather, hogging of technology!

My students have been able to demonstrate comprehension, research, present, etc with all the items that we have received in just such a short space of time. I cannot wait to see how much more will be accomplished between the newspaper and Ted Talks they are working on. Stay tuned for more impact, more learning, more gains by my students.”

  • Hands On Reading

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

It is with a humbled heart that I receive your donation. Our schools are in need and for people such as yourselves to do your part, overwhelms me. Our students are readers or will develop a love for reading so these resources will be pushed into our classrooms and utilized effectively.

With our population of 48 percent ELL, not only do we teach them language but we also teach them life in America which includes utilizing technology in classrooms. All of our students participate in Accelerated Reader program so with these tablets we can continue to push the program

Again, on behalf of my school, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moulton

  • Move Towards Independent Reading

    Funded Oct 22, 2013

In our literacy classrooms, we heavily pushed the use of independent reading in our classrooms. Especially since many young adult novels were being turned into movies, it allows our students to have something to look forward to and to be able to compare and contrast the film to the book. The students and teachers enjoyed the novels we received. Teachers were able to spruce up their classroom libraries since it has been some time since they have received new books. Once a month, a student aid would go around to different classrooms and bring new books to the classroom. Also students who have read the new books completed a book write up to post in some classrooms to promote the book.

The books were warmly received by students. The variety of subject matters was easily appealing to our students. Students in both our Reading department and English department had access to the books. As the reading coach, I strongly encourage student selection when it comes to independent reading particularly for our struggling readers. If they are already reluctant to read, then let them read what they want to.

I hope to be able to expand our book delivery and book review project into a school blog where students can incorporate writing and sharing their thoughts about the books that they are reading. My goal for next year is to have ten different books so that each month we can roll out a new one.

My appreciation and gratitude cannot be expressed in mere words except with an overwhelming and resounding thanks. Thank you for supporting education. Thank you for getting to us teachers who are in the trenches everyday coming up with innovative and cool ways to reach our students. I hope your partnership continues.”
