Our fourth grade students look forward to the opportunity to play recorders from the time they arrive at the elementary school. Recorders are an excellent introduction to note reading, ensemble performance, and wind instrument technique. Learning to play their recorders solo and as a group will support students' transition to band or choir in middle school. For many students, the recorder is the first instrument that truly belongs to them, empowering students to take ownership of their practice time and try their best. The recorders allow students to put the musical concepts they have studied to work in increasingly challenging songs that keep all students engaged and growing. With a recorder for each child, students can continue to play and develop their skills through fifth grade and beyond.
