Keep Wigglers in Their Place
Funded Nov 27, 2018First of all, thank you so much for your generosity and kind heart. My kids were jumping with joy when they found out someone that didn't know them wanted to help them learn better. Due to our teacher strike, we weren't able to get the "wiggly cushions" out as soon as they were delivered. Once our strike was over, I was able to finally unpack them and set them up ready to be used. When my kids saw the cushions out of the box and in their place, they couldn't wait to use them! They were so excited!!
The wiggly cushions help the students stay in their place on the carpet. Also, some students like to sit in their chairs in a way that's not safe (their knees on the chair and feet on the back rest). I constantly have to tell those few students that it's not safe to sit in that position. The wiggly cushions not only helped my wigglers on the carpet but also helped those students sit safely on the chairs! It's a reminder to sit "rock bottom" or on their bottoms as others say. The cushions also helped some of my students who need a break from the whole group sit a little farther away for a few minutes and, instead of sitting on the floor, they sit on the wiggly cushion until they're ready to join the whole group. I created this project with one situation in mind but it helped me out in three different situations!
When I got the wiggly cushions, I took out a bench from our classroom library and used it for cushion storage. It left us with an empty looking library. My next project will be to find something to replace our bench in the classroom library to create a more inviting atmosphere for reading.”
