These books would help widen my students vocabulary and experiences. My students enjoy learning and reading in general, but I notice a spark within them when we learn about black characters like Bill Pickett, who is one of most famous black cowboys. When we learned about the Chinese culture that lead to the Legend of Mulan, there were mini activist being born saying things like “That’s not fair. Why would they treat her like that, just because she’s a girl”. These additions to our classroom will help build experiences for my students about different cultures while also getting them excited about the places they can go with just reading stories.
