Art Library: Books to Celebrate Identity!
Funded Mar 11, 2021My students have been so excited about the art projects that we have been doing in response to our new classroom library additions! For example, we are currently working on a long term identity unit with third, fourth and fifth graders and our new books have been excellent resources and sources of inspiration. Students are also able to read books from the art classroom library after they finish a project early.
I am especially excited to share with my students stories about artists that they may be able to relate to including: A Life Made by Hand, Yayoi Kusama Covered Everything in Dots and Wasn't Sorry, Jake Makes a World, The World Is Not a Rectangle, Maya Lin: Artist-Architect of Light and Lines, and The Girl Who Thought in Pictures.
Thank you again for your support! My students and I are so thankful!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mandell

Funded May 5, 2020Thank you so much for supporting my students and my art program. The techniques that I will develop in this course will be invaluable to my teaching. I look forward to using techniques for analyzing composition, scale, color mixing, reading light, and reading the weather with my students in the future.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you so much for your donation! I teach 30 classes of ~30 students each week, meaning that your donation supported over 700 students!
To share the art that we make in class with their families, students have been using these iPads to post their art pieces to Artsonia, an online art sharing platform. Artsonia is awesome because it gives my students an opportunity to bond with their families over the work they are doing in art class, which increases how they personally value the work they are doing and pushes them to take more risks, try even harder, and continue to problem solve and invest energy into their art making. Some students have delegated themselves as Artsonia experts, helping their classmates to post and exhibiting their leadership skills, which is pretty awesome to see.
In addition to using these iPads for Artsonia, students will also be able to use art making apps, and use these iPads for photography and stop motion animation projects. Thank you again for choosing to support my students and the work they are doing in my art classroom!”

Funded Apr 21, 2018Thank you so much for the supplies! My students have been having a ball making stuffed animals that light up! They were ecstatic to see all of the bright, colorful felt, and were proud of the works that they were able to create using those materials. Students learned about UglyDolls and created their own.
Students learned how to sew, learned about conductive materials, and made their own design choices with this project in a way that they previously would not have had an opportunity to. With your help, my students were able to take ownership of their learning and apply concepts in a practical way.
In the future, my students hope to go a step further and construct other soft sculptures that use lights in an unexpected way. We plan to make that a reality this upcoming spring. Thank you again for your support and generous donation!!”

Art Supplies and iPads for Expressive Bilingual Learners
Funded Mar 20, 2015With your help, my students were able to learn about tints and shadows in a more interesting way, using construction paper crayons on black paper. They were also able to paint onto pottery, which I believe made a big impact. The fifth graders who were able to do that project were really excited and proud of their artwork. With your donations, I was also able to allow non-english speaking students use iPads to help translate and assist them in understanding assignments. Students were also able to use the iPads to help them find source materials. Again, my students were super excited about the supplies and I really appreciate your support and donation to my classroom!”

Art Room Supplies
Funded Oct 3, 2014My students were thrilled to have paper and glue for art projects! Because of your generosity, I was able to teach portraiture to kindergarten through fourth grade artists. We used the paper you donated and the kids had so much fun making self portraits, figuring out their face shapes and drawing their bodies!
I was also able to teach an op-art lesson using the donated paper to fourth and fifth grade artists. The kids were amazed when they learned that they could make their artwork look 3D. I heard the words "That's popping!" and "Wow! That's so cool!" when students were able to discover their own abilities to create a piece of art that gives off the illusion of being three-dimensional.
With my fourth and fifth grade art club, we used the large paper that you donated to create two murals to beautify the school! I have caught many other students admiring the murals and have heard that the murals make the hallway look nice and one student even told me that "the artwork brightens up my walk to the cafeteria! The kids did a really nice job." On behalf of myself and all of my students, I say a very gracious "Thank you! We could not have done it without your help!"”
