Nifty New Readers Need a Non-Fiction Library

I wish you could have been here to hear the squeals of delight as I presented our new non-fiction library to the students! They were so excited! We have used the books in so many ways! Obviously, they have served great use as leveled readers during independent reading time, but they have also been used as great resources for our non-fiction writing unit. And the Butterfly book in particular has been a great source as we watched and grew live butterflies in the classroom! Months later the children are still so excited to go through the non-fiction library!

Our students are a group of incredibly inquisitive, curious, busy and bright students who are eager to explore this world. Coming from predominantly Asian backgrounds most are not only new to the culture of the United States, but also new to the English language. According to government standards they are considered impoverished, but their dedication to learning exhibits a wealth beyond measure. Our mission is to enable students to achieve their full potential as productive, caring, informed human beings by providing them with a rigorous, comprehensive education suited to their unique needs and abilities. To achieve this, we provide programs that address the intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs of all our students. Decisions affecting our students and our school are arrived at with the fullest participation of administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
