Plants for Productivity! Using Greenery to Create a Calming Environment
Funded May 3, 2021Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom! Bringing these new materials into the room has helped create a calming environment for my students.
The pictures frames have been a hit! The students absolutely love looking at the photos and discussing the events that are displayed in them. I've heard so many great conversations! It's been fun watching them walk around the room, looking from frame to frame to spot all of their friends.
The neutral tones and natural greenery has really helped my students focus, and I have found that they are less distracted by their surroundings. A wall of our classroom is now covered in ivy! The class loves having the feel of nature in our room. A few students love the greenery so much that they have even donated their own plants!
Overall, these additions have been a wonderful way to help create a peaceful and engaging classroom environment. It has helped create a sense of focus in the room that we will continue to develop!
Thank you again for all of your donations and support!”

Funded Feb 26, 2019Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom! Bringing these new materials into the room brought excitement to my students.
The pictures frames and family photo wall have been a hit! The students absolutely love looking at the photos and discussing the events that are displayed in them. I've heard so many "Remember when we..." conversations! Because the students were so inspired by these memories, I added the pictures to the writing center - where they wrote beautiful journals detailing the events. Since having more pictures around the room, I have heard my students share stories about their families with one another, creating a closeness and a bond between one another. As they share with each other about their siblings and families, they have become noticeably more cohesive as a group.
Between the tree and the lights, the decor changes have also helped the class focus. One student said that having a tree in the classroom felt like we were at the park! We will often do writing with the overhead lights dimmed, just using the twinkling lights. One of my students even wrote a journal describing the changes! If students choose to write about something, you know it's made an impact on them.
The essential oils have been a calming and fun element in the room. The students love asking about the scent of the day and can often be found sniffing at the air around the diffuser. Peppermint has been a favorite with the kids (they say it smells like gum!), while I prefer eucalyptus and lavender (it is SO relaxing - we feel like we're at a spa!)
Overall, these additions have been an exciting way for my students to re-engage with the classroom. It has helped create an intimacy in the room that we will continue to develop!
Thank you again for all of your donations and support!”
