Problem-Solving and Positive Affirmations For My Second Graders
Funded Oct 23, 2023Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donation! Your generosity has provided us with opportunities for meaningful morning conversations and deeper self-reflections that boost our confidence. The students enjoy taking turns answering a fun morning meeting question with their "Morning Chips." Before, students weren't keen on talking, now they cannot wait to share their responses with each other about the "a gift they'd like to receive" or "if they were on a treasure hunt what would they find?"
Throughout the day, when they need a break, or need a boost of confidence, they visit the "Calming Corner." They can look at themselves in the mirror and see the beauty across from them. They have reminders of why they're amazing students! If they're facing some kind of challenge, they get reminders of how to solve tackle their problems. Every student is eager to visit the "Calming Corner." Our classroom has been a oasis of community and kindness. We wish you could visit us so we could say "THANK YOU" in person!”

The Gift of Books
Funded Mar 21, 2022Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. My students loved the books! I know this because the covers and pages of the books have been worn from reading these books. My students look forward to reading time because of the exciting titles our library has.
You have given my students the best gift--the gift of reading. I have a student this year who had been so discouraged from reading, but as he found one of the Fly Guy books, he could not wait to read it to his friends and to me. You made that possible. These stories allow them to step into another world where they can use their imagination all while practicing their reading skills.”

Basic Back to School Supplies
Funded Sep 27, 2021Thank you for providing my students with some basic school supplies. They were so excited to receive these little surprises from donors. They received folders they use for writing, pencil cases to hold their supplies and water bottles and lunch boxes for those who don't have any. My students were truly so happy to receive these items. We appreciate you and your kindness. You've made our school year a better year for all of us.
As winter break approaches, I'm hoping to purchase some goodies to provide my students. I'd like to purchase a class set of books to let my students take home and read over the break as well as some treats. We hope you consider contributing towards our next project.”

Mrs. Khan

Funded May 12, 2021My students absolutely love the books they received. They try to race each other to read them and they love to read them again and again, especially the Katie Woo book series. We've been reading them during our reading lessons and I can see how they want to re-read the same books on their own. I love seeing them enthusiastic about the titles we now have in our classroom library, including students who were struggling with reading or found it boring. We are finally putting some titles that they enjoy, thanks to your generous donation!”

Digital Resources for Remote Learning
Funded Jan 19, 2021Since not being in-person with my students and teaching remotely, having access to digital resources has been super helpful for my class. I have been able to create engaging lessons and materials for students who can get a little more excited about their classwork and homework remotely. By mid-school year, our routine needed a boost and having access to fun and interactive material online has rejuvenated my students.
For example, I am able to check-in with students who I don't normally get to check in with during Zoom meetings using digital journals. Being able to use digital journals has helped me learn more about students who may not get the opportunity during the school day. I've learned students prefer other avenues to share things about themselves, and digital journals has been a tool for me to learn and communicate with students.
I can't wait to see what other resources I can purchase for my students as they have become so technologically savvy during this remote school year. One student wrote an entire How-To Create a Google Classroom book for her nonfiction writing. My students are eager to try and use new technological resources.
Thank you for supporting our next generation of leaders!”

Remote Learning Kit
Funded Jan 11, 2021Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping purchase math manipulatives for our students. They were beyond excited to receive their Remote Learning Kits with base 10 blocks, clocks, money kits, and number charts dry erase boards. As soon as students received them, they couldn't wait to start using them in math lessons, even without my prompting. My students have been eager to show off their supplies while showing their math work. I remember while checking work on Google Classroom, my students have been taking pictures with their base 10 blocks to show how they added or subtracted, or using their clocks to show me the time, or their money kits to add coin and dollar values. Rather than just completing problems in their math workbooks with no tangible materials, math problems come to life when they get to use their manipulatives.
When students have difficulty with solving a math problem, I love having been able to invite students to take out their tools. One time, a student was confused in determining whether a coin was a nickel or dime. When she was able to pull out her money kit, she was easily able to match the coins on the screen to her coins on hand and read that the coin said five cents on it. Teaching moments like this when students can rely on supplies that support their learning has been so comforting to me and the students.
While being in a classroom and having access to a plethora of math manipulatives hasn't been possible because of the pandemic, your support has brought mini-classrooms to my students homes. For this, we all thank you!”

Funded Sep 15, 2020My students were so thrilled when they got their unifex cubes and whiteboards. On the first day, they were showing off their materials and super excited to use them.
My students use their dry erase boards on a daily basis and love using them. They are engaged during classes when they get to do their phonics or math work on it. Just today, a student told me she used her dry erase board to practice her math independently so she can "get smarter." This wouldn't be possible without the generous donations you provided.
They can't wait for their next remote learning kit with more supplies. These supplies (as simple as they seem) actually mean the world to them. It makes remote learning a bit less generic and creates hands-on experiences for them. Thank you for making that possible with your donations!”

Funded Jul 14, 2018We love our new easel board! Students can easily participate by writing on the board, or we can hang up posters using magnets or clips. On the other side of the board, I use a pocket chart for my vocabulary that students can look at. Everything is so easily accessible for students to see what's on the board as it can effortlessly move around the room. I can store my supplies and materials for each lesson on the bottom tray without having to retrieve them from another area. I am so organized with this easel.
Students love to do their math on the dry erase board. We read our alphabet letters and say the sounds that match the letters from the poster hanging on the board. Soon, we'll be using the dry erase board stand in our small groups so that students at the table can see what I'm modeling for them. We can't wait to use this stand in our guided reading sessions as well so that they can see visuals and vocabulary words at any time during our differentiated lessons.
Thank you for making learning accessible for all of my students! We appreciate your support.”

Guided Reading Books to Learn and Grow!
Funded Mar 10, 2018I wanted to send an update on the impact of having resources in my classroom such as books for guided reading. Seventy percent of my students have moved levels in reading by the end of June, with one student achieving level E in reading. None of my students came to my class knowing how to read a single word, or knowing how to put letters together to make a word. Thirty percent of my students can read at a Level A, which is still a huge achievement for them. I am proud of all of my students. Without having a wide selection of fun books to read, students are not motivated to read. Because of your support, my library is filled with books catered to interests and subjects my students are interested in. The best feeling is when a student specifically asks for a book about frogs or elephants, and you can joyfully show them a book from the library so they can read it. My students always looked forward to reading time, and most important in this experience is having the chance to browse through different books in a library. I wanted to thank you for making reading an exciting experience, for not just this class, but future classes.”
