  • Print My Scientific Research!

    Funded May 3, 2019

The technology that I have been able to acquire with this project has had a huge impact on my classroom. My students are now learning how to transfer information from one device to the next. They are able to create and design using a computer, smartphone or tablet and now they print their work and have a tangible proof of their efforts. I know we could not have accomplished this without the generous support of donors like you.

When my students learned about the new technology they were so excited. Some were finishing up their research projects on animals. They were excited to see their work come to life in the form of slide shows, websites and graphic posters. Some of my shyest students could not wait to stand before the class and share their work. Not only are my students using the new technology, they are taking charge of it as well. They formed a student tech team responsible for installing software, helping peers troubleshoot, and replenishing paper and ink. New jobs have been created for students in my classroom. Please know that it was your support that made it all possible and for that we are truly thankful.”

    With gratitude,

  • Hear It, Learn It, Speak It!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thanks to the new technology, my students are excited about presenting and sharing their work in class. Even the shy students, have gained confidence in learning how to use technology to project their work onto the big screen. My students and I are extremely appreciative of these tools. My students use the technology every week and it has added such a great value to my classroom.

The most exciting thing that has come out of this new technology, has been the establishment of the Student Tech Team. These are a group students that have learned how to use and connect the various technologies we have. Armed with their newfound knowledge, they now give back to other students and staff members by assisting those who are having difficulty using it.

The culture in my classroom is now more exciting. Every student knows that through this technology, they will always have a role in presenting what they learned to others. We know we could not have accomplished this without your generosity. This is only the beginning, however there are outcomes of your support that will continue to manifest in the future. We truly cannot thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

  • Publish A Masterpiece!

    Funded Oct 30, 2017

I am so excited about the resources you gave us. Thanks to your support, we have been able to create a technology display board that really demonstrates both the learning and the hard work that takes place in my classroom. My students were able to edit, print and laminate timelines that they created to display on our board and eventually take home and keep for years to come. The flash drives allow my students to take their drafts from one device to the next. Some of my students have even been able to edit and improve their work at home. Now that my students are able to print, publish and preserve their work, they put more effort into the work that they do.

As soon as my students saw the materials they were excited. However, they were also extremely thankful. They began using the materials right away. My students are taking more ownership in the process of creating and the final pieces they publish. They are excited to display their new work because they know they have the tools they need to create quality projects. Currently, my students are working on creating graphs and tables to display data using word processing software. When my students have completed a project, they will not just have their electronic files, they will have tangible evidence to display, share, and keep for as long as they desire.

Of course this would not have been possible without you. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. Your contributions and generosity will not be forgotten. On behalf of myself, my students, and my school community, I thank you. We truly appreciate what you have done for us and we appreciate you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Khalid

  • 21st Century Listening

    Funded Sep 22, 2017

Words cannot begin to express how truly grateful I am for the support that you have given to me and my students. Headphones are not the most advanced of technology, yet trying to function in a computer lab without them proved to be a great challenge. Before gaining this technology, it was difficult for my students to stay focused on the computer. My students had to read through information, rather than listen which was a challenge for my struggling readers and my students that were learning English for the first time.

Now a whole new world has been opened up for my students. A world that they can not only see, but can hear as well. They can watch videos, listen to audio books, use language translation software and hear feedback on their progress while using academic websites on the computer. My students are more focused in class then ever before. My students are able to access, process and learn faster than in the past.

Thank you for caring enough to make a difference in the lives of my students. The impact you have made will stay with my students and I always.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Khalid

  • Around the World in 180 Days

    Funded Aug 28, 2015

Around the World in 180 days is a project that has really just begun and one that will continue throughout the lives of my students. The books we have read about people, places and landforms around the community and the world, have opened doors that were not previously visible. For example, if you had asked my students what country are you from? Many would tell you a street or a neighborhood, a few would have given a city or state. Even then they did not understand how big, how vast, and how diverse the world is. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to teach my students how to read and create maps. They can determine where they are on the map or the globe. They are able to show you where their relatives, friends and pen pals live on the map.

My students learned about the different kinds of communities, how communities are formed and why people choose to live in certain types of communities. I have taught them about the resources that exist in communities both natural and man-made. I taught my students how they are a human resource and can build, create, and design the community they want to live in. They also have become aware that there are different communities all around the world with different cultures. The computer software we received has games for students to explore different parts of country and the world.

Everyday in my classroom I read aloud to my students. My students gather around me in a circle. I instruct them to put on their thinking caps to prepare for the journey that books can take us on. At times I ask them to close their eyes and visualize what we have read. This allows us to go in depth about what we are learning. I have been able to use the materials I gained to give students more visuals and reference points for understanding the things we are learning. My students this year now know what it means to be a geographer. The globe and the United States of America carpet are my students' favorites. They love standing up in front of their friends and showing that the can find a place on the map that we read or learned about. When we learn about things that happen in other states. My students are able to go to the carpet and use their phonological skills to find the state we learned about.

This project has been a great success for me in this school year and I hope my students will continue to be inquisitive about the world around them and explore their path as global citizens. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the caring hearts and generosity of those who gave. My students and I are so very thankful for all that has been done for us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Khalid

  • Mathematicians of the Twenty-First Century

    Funded Nov 21, 2011

It is not very often that educators are fortunate enough to bring their visions and ideas to life in the classroom. Often, our instructional creativity far exceeds our financial ability. That is why it brings me such great pleasure to be able to express how truly thankful I am to have had the opportunity to provide my students with materials and instruction that will help them succeed in the Twenty-First Century world. Acquiring the materials I needed to successfully enhance my classroom's engagement in learning, is a task I would not have been able to complete on my own.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all of your support by saying "Thank You!" Although the two words are said so often, they rarely have the emotional heartfelt depth that I feel in saying them to you and your organization. Thank you for providing my students with the basic tools they needed to become more efficient mathematicians. Thank you for helping me to create and model a class community that is both caring and generous. Your generosity has shown both my students and I, that we can truly make a difference by supporting others in need. Your charitable goodness has had a tremendous impact on both my students and my classroom.

Since receiving the materials, the students have really grown as mathematicians and citizens. My students are excited about math and more confident. They are more eager to learn math and not afraid to ask questions when they don't understand. They know now that math is not just about a pencil and a paper. It's about technology, thoughts, ideas, and the world that they live in. My students have had the opportunity to use media as a tool for learning. On the projector screen, the children can even view online videos of strategies and methods used to teach math around the country and around the world.

Thanks to your support my students have been able to learn basic math facts through the use of calculators. My students have been able to use interactive math software on the projector screen. The majority of the class has mastered two digit addition and subtraction and single digit multiplication. My students used paper materials and glue to create math thinking books in which they express their thought processes for solving math problems and jot down math notes that they felt were important to remember.

I will always be eternally grateful that I was able to bring my creative vision to life. I appreciate being able to prove to my students and to myself that nothing is impossible. However, more importantly my students have been able to learn in a way that would not have been possible with out your help. Your gift is not one that will impact them for just this year, but it will impact their learning experiences throughout their education. Thanks to your help, I will be able to extend your gift with all of my students for years to come.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Khalid

My students range in grades from Prekindergarten through 4th grade. They attend an urban public school in New York State. Many of them have learning disabilities and limited resources at home. My students depend upon me to teach them how to use computers and technology for learning. They have limited resources and technology at home. Some of my students have used technology in the past to play games. I have to be creative in teaching them how to use technology to learn, solve a problem or create something entirely new. I want to show my students that through the use of technology almost anything is possible. In the past, some of my students disabilities have prevented them from being able to fully participate in class. I know that with the right technological resources all of my students will be able to have access they need to to have the kind of twenty-first century learning experience they deserve.
