"The Hate U Give" focuses on the power of speech, family, and the willingness to help a community in need. This book is about a young African American girl speaking out to make a difference. The events that take place in this book can be quite relatable to the children in my class. "The Hate U Give" may be beneficial to improving their outlook on life. I want to encourage my students to stand tall for what is right and to look for ways to shine in their hometown, despite the difficulties they face. It will be used during silent reading and literature circles.
