  • Love to Read!

    Funded Nov 29, 2017

Thank you for your kindness! Having these books in the classroom has made such a positive impact on these students. They have thoroughly enjoyed having more books in our classroom. Each of them always have a book in their desk to read when they are finished with an assignment. In my 11 years of teaching, I have never seen a group of students love to read so much. It is such a joy to watch them read books and suggest books to each other.

Not only has it made the students love to read, but it makes my job easier when teaching a multi-level reading class. Their reading levels have improved and several students have been able to attend celebrations for meeting reading comprehension goals set for them.

From the words of my students, "Thank you for the books. I love reading. I'm getting smarter every day!"- Brianna, "We love our books! You did a good job! You have great books. We read your books everyday! Love you!" -Jean "I feel happy to have more books!" - Arianna, "I want to meet my AR goal with your books!"- Jeter "Thank you for the books! I love reading." - Amir”

  • Stability Balls Instead of Chairs!

    Funded Feb 28, 2017

Thank you for your generosity! You have made a profound difference in my classroom. I knew the stability balls would work, but I didn't realize how great the impact would be on my students this year. From the moment they arrived, the students couldn't wait for me to blow them up. Not only have the "ants in their pants" almost disappeared, the increase in focus has been amazing. There has even been a noticeable improvement in some of their handwriting!

When meetings are held in my classroom, other teachers comment on how they could use these stability balls in their classroom and start naming their students who could benefit. They want to sit on them too! When our classroom door is open and other classes walk by, they start saying "WOW! Look at those balls" "How cool!!" or "That's the cool classroom!!!"

The word has spread around the school. Teachers and paraprofessionals have come to visit, just to see the new creative seating arrangements in the classroom. Administration loves the idea of using these in the classroom.”

  • Magazines for 3rd Grade!

    Funded Oct 13, 2016

You will never know the impact you have made on my students this year! Not only are the 20 students in my classroom using these magazines, but the entire third grade team is using them. Your kind donation has reached the lives of approximately 140 students in third grade!

Most of these students have never dissected a magazine before. They have realized that they can read and learn information from a magazine as well as books in the library or classroom. They have also learned that in many magazines they can and will learn about other subjects, not just read about celebrities or look at pictures! They did not know that science or social students or even math could be found in something other than a textbook. Their exposure to the world around them has been enhanced due to your kindness!

In their reading textbooks, they have only heard/seen pictures of magazines, but have never touched this educational resource. Not only are the students excited, but the teachers are as well. These magazines have added to our collection of resources for reading, science and math. Scholastic has become my entire curriculum for Social Studies since our books are out dated and the new book is only online.

Students learn best when they have materials in their hands, especially little children. The more exposure they have to the world around them, the more educated they become. You have done just that with your kind donation.”

    Ms. Clifford

  • Middle of the Year Materials

    Funded Mar 29, 2016

When the materials first arrived, the student's could not believe that someone sent these materials to us. They asked many times when they get to use the construction paper and other colored paper. Students collaborated together to create ideas, worked on foldables, and became more creative when told they were using materials that were donated by strangers.

The students took pride in their work and wanted to show their best effort. The teacher used the materials to make more posters for students to refer to while learning new information. They were also able to create their own posters to empower other students during testing. Additionally, the teacher used the construction paper during the summer to cover student reading journals for the beginning of the next school year. The students decorated their journal covers in order to take ownership and pride in their work. Many students added pictures of themselves and families to covers and put various other illustrations on their covers to remind them of something that makes them happy. We are in the second week of school, and students are still talking about how they decorated their journal covers.”

  • Science at Our Fingertips!

    Funded Oct 13, 2015

The new resources are being used in the classroom as an additional tool to teach hands on experiences. The students are able to understand how sound travels with the use of the tuning forks and how light reflects/refracts through certain materials by using the flashlights. The fully understand density. They were able to use the density cubes and other materials to understand how to measure the weight of objects without using a scale. It's wonderful to see curious minds learn!

As the packages arrived, the look on their faces was amazing! They were so curious as to what was inside the boxes that they couldn't focus on their other daily assignments. Each day, more boxes arrived and their curiosity grew! Every day after the materials arrived, they asked when they were going to be able to experiment with the items. After all the boxes arrived, I shared with the students the materials and was asked a lot of questions like "what is that supposed to do?" or "what is that for?" As the students were slowly exposed to the materials, I also heard some students say "I can't wait to use all of those things". The best reaction was the goggles. None of my students have ever had a pair of science goggles to use. They are so excited and did not want to take them off!

The next step for the students is to learn about measurement. Most students have used a plastic ruler, but none of them have used a tape measure. I passed them out to the students to expose their curious minds and much to my surprise, they did not know what to do with it. We will soon be using them in math to learn about measuring items, reading the measuring tape and learning about other tools for measurement.”

  • Dry Erase Marker Math

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

The timing of your kind donations could not have been more perfect. We just ran out of white board markers to use in the classroom. The students were so incredibly thrilled when I entered the classroom with the boxes. They kept asking me "are those the markers people donated to us?". I slowly opened the boxes and pulled out each pack. The smiles on their faces were priceless! The wanted to immediately start using them to solve their math problems.

As I opened box #2 and #3, they were even more excited when I pulled out the new magnets and test tubes that were donated. I explained to them that there are very generous people in the world who are willing to help students reach their maximum potential and want them to grow up and be successful in their lives.

I now have students in other classes asking to be changed to my classroom because according to them, "I have all the cool gadgets". It's such a great feeling to have students want to be in my class because of the materials available to them for learning. My students are excited to come to class and are very eager to get to work!

Their test scores in math science have increased because they now have the materials to engage in hands on learning. They are no longer bored. Other teachers visit my classroom often because of the student interaction and collaboration that goes on, on a daily basis.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Clifford
