  • Journal Supplies for Independent Reading

    Funded Sep 11, 2024

Thank you so much for the generous donations that enabled the purchase of a wide array of artistic supplies! My students have made really beautiful journal covers that inspire and keep them motivated even when their writing assignments get tougher and tougher, especially as we roll into the doldrums of winter.

My students are incredible readers, writers and thinkers. Your donations continue to help them reach into the depths of their minds and access the creativity they are so desperate to showcase. Thank you for all that you do to support my amazing young people.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Betit

  • Basic Needs For 7:30 AM Classes!

    Funded Oct 17, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this most worthy project! Typically I am begging y'all for books, but it's difficult to read and focus if you're feeling hungry or stressed out. Your donations ensure that my kiddos will have snacks they love while they continue to devour the books they love. Thank you so very much!!!”

  • Ain't Burned All the Bright: a Poetic Journey

    Funded Aug 3, 2024

Thank you so much for this amazing collection of relevant and timely poetry texts. My students have been working hard to create their own journals and poetry in the style of these authors and the ability to see and hold the text rather than watch a projected slide show is huge.

Your continued support of my efforts to bring meaningful literary experiences to young people is truly inspiring. My students are often forgotten and left behind because it is assumed that they cannot do difficult things. Your support proves that they CAN and that they SHOULD be given the opportunity to shine.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Betit

  • Graphic Novels and Classics for Rad Kiddos

    Funded May 21, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom library - today is the second day of school and we are going to spend our time choosing books for our first independent reading session - this donation ensures that there are even more options for my kiddos to explore!

Reading is disappearing from schools every day. As students wade through a sea of test prep, one-off activities, and excerpted experiences they are losing their connections to the joy of simply reading a book, comic, or graphic novel for a purpose that is purely theirs. May this library continue to be a bright spot in their days.”

  • New Books for a New Year!

    Funded Jan 2, 2024

Thank you so much for your continued support of our constantly expanding library! Your donations enabled us to add new titles to our catalog and increase access to characters that students don't typically find in a standard high school English class. To date my two special education English classes have read over 50 books and the library has even made its way across the building - other teachers are reading out to see how they can implement independent reading into their routines and their students are now reading more books than ever!

None of this would be possible without you - many, many thanks!”

  • Cool Books for Cool Kids

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you for so much for your unwavering support of the F207 library - we recently expanded access to credit recovery opportunities for some of our most at-risk students and these books have helped to inspire individuals who felt previously disengaged from school. Seeing young people click back into reading and books after so many years away is such a gift and an honor, your support means that more student have access to more books that speak to them as individuals in the world. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, truly.”

  • Representative Literature For LGBTQIA Students!

    Funded Oct 25, 2023

Thank you so much for donating to this cause that is so dear to my heart. Representation matters, now more than ever, for queer young people who feel themselves under so much scrutiny and who experience judgement, stigma, and threats of violence simply because they want to live and love. These books will help me and my coworker design an elective that is inclusive, affirming, and warm. These books allow students to see themselves and those they love in positive lights with struggles that are reflective of their own lives as well as the queer experience writ large. Thank you for your generosity and for your desire to help our beautiful young people thrive.”

  • Novels and Notebooks for Aspiring Writers

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you so much for the high quality school supplies and awesome novels! My kiddos were so excited to get to choose their notebook colors and some have already filled an entire book with their incredible thoughts and stories. Independent reading can only be successful if students have access to quality books that speak to their lives and experiences - your donations enabled the expansion of many sections of the F207 library. I even have students from other classes coming in to beg for the latest in their favorite series!

Thanks for making our library a success, it is so appreciated!”

  • Missing Manga: Complete Our Series!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations - the F207 manga collection is the envy of the entire school and I aim to keep it that way by always having complete, up to date series to match the interests and abilities of our young people. So often I hear students say how much they hate reading, yet 30 seconds later I SEE THEM READING! For them, immersing themselves in the fantastical, mythological worlds of today's most popular anime through manga is not about reading, it's about immersion in a way that many of us think about literature. These books are essential to keeping my at risk students engaged in the process of reading, thank you for helping me give them books that truly speak to them.”

  • Independent Reading Books for Awesome People!

    Funded May 11, 2023

The only thing more exciting than a new school year is the arrival of BOXES AND BOXES of new books! Thank you so much for your continued support of our ever growing classroom library, I couldn't achieve the success I have with my young readers over the last few years without it. I cannot wait to meet my new students later this week and be able to throw out these fresh new titles about characters who resonate with my diverse population of awesome young people. Thank you for believing in me, my fabulous library, and my amazing students.”

I would love to expand my classroom library to reflect the diverse backgrounds and interests of my students. I am asking for twenty books including Tell Me Three Things; The 57 Bus; and Speak: The Graphic Novel; as well as a Bluford Series 20-Book Boxed Set. I have chosen books with characters my students can identify with to be read during our independent reading block as well as books that span across a variety of reading levels to help my most at-risk students become life long lovers of literature. There is nothing more exciting than seeing the reading timer go off and all faces still buried in books - and nothing more frustrating than seeing a student unable to find a book they can love and understand.
