As a teacher trained in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education, I have seen how having xylophones in the classroom unlocks a world of possibilities for music making. My 2nd grade students will enjoy improvising songs and will learn how to play music with the same notes they're singing with. For my kindergarten and autistic students (grades 3-8), playing xylophones will be a chance for them to develop motor skills, to differentiate between high and low sounds, and to begin the process of improvising simple tunes. The quality of the Studio 49 xylophones and glockenspiels will ensure that they last for years to come. These xylophones and glockenspiels have removable tone bars that allow students to more easily play melodies that use a limited number of notes. The students can also use these instruments to play harmonic accompaniments with the songs they sing. With all these possibilities for music making, many memorable experiences will come to life in our classroom. Currently my classroom has a limited number of barred xylophone instruments, with only three instruments that are an appropriate size for children under 8 years old. Adding these six instruments to my instrument repertoire would allow them to begin making music on xylophones as a class.
