My amazing, special education preschool students are currently experiencing a unique type of classroom environment. To maintain a safe and socially distanced space, students work individually and without access to community toys and materials. Our class is blessed with 6 garden beds to nurture, but without enough gardening tools, the students are limited in their participation. The preschoolers and the teachers have always loved gardening, especially watching the plants grow and insects come to visit. Inside the classroom, student learning is individualized and their interest in technology is a great opportunity to provide individualized instruction. With new tablets and gardening/science tools, students can participate in activities that are engaging and target their interests. Tablets would allow students to participate in fine motor activities that are stimulating and personally interesting. Teachers would be able to track their progress electronically as well as provide rewards and activities that are motivating. Gardening and growing supplies would allow a balance between technology and outdoor experiences to inspire well-rounded children.
