• Help Me Enhance My Classroom With Handy Appliances

  I am very grateful for your support. The microwave and refrigerator that were purchased with these funds allowed me to warm snacks for hungry students and keep water cold for them on hot, thirsty days. Moreover, it helped me to create a caring culture within my classroom, as I involved students in taking turns distributing snacks to their classmates and in refilling the fridge with water when it got empty. Students learned the rule of "Take a bottle out, put one back," and I was delighted to hear them reminding each other of this rule of consideration. Helping me show kindness to my kids has helped me encourage kindness and thoughfulness in them towards one another.

  The other appliances purchased, such as the timer, have helped me to be more efficient and toi keep class activities moving, including games and competitive learning exercises. In so many ways, your gifts have enhanced my classroom environment and practice, and it has encouraged me every time I remember whom I have to thank for them.”

  In studying about IB education, I am learning the philosophy, principles, and practices behind a program that aims to build curious, conscientious, globally-oriented scholars. This course is ongoing, but it has already shed insights that help me in my current role. For example, the project based approach to instruction has helped me find ways to challenge my students to work as a community, collaborating to do research and solve problems as a team. I also appreciate the intercultural emphasis of IB education, and it is a joy to see how curious my learners are about societies in other parts of the world, their languages and comparative cultures. We are having great fun!”

• Help Us Get a Classroom Set of This Required Text!

  I wish you could have seen the huge smile on my face when my Amazon box containing a class set of Maya Angelou's I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS came in. For the first time this year, I had the much needed reading material in advance of the time we were to start studying the book, and it was possible to give the students a reading guide they could follow AND a copy of AN ACTUAL BOOK they could hold in their hands, instead of a PDF they'd have to read on their digital device screens.

  Most of the children I teach are from families that are economically challenged and sometimes their parents see even school-required literary texts their children can own as a luxury rather than an essential. Knowing that gave me a great feeling as I passed out the books, as if I were scattering largesse provided by the princely generosity of our donors. It was also wonderful to have all the students literally able to be on the same pages as we read and discussed the book together. You made that possible, and it made a huge difference in our ability to delve deeply into this powerful and highly relevant book. Thank you SO much!”

• Help Students Stay Hydrated & Incentivized with Water & Snacks!

  The water and snacks provided for the students have been greatly appreciated! The students focus better when they're well hydrated, which is especially important as spring advances. Here in the mid-South, the humid days in April can feel like a preview of the sweltering summer to come, and so the water was in high demand, daily. I couldn't believe how fast they could finish off a box of bottled water, in fact; but it was gratifying to be able to offer it to them, particularly during exams, when they weren't allowed to leave the room to go to the fountain for long stretches.

  As for the chips and sweets and fruit snacks, those have been great for boosting the kids' energy and morale. Sometimes, I used them to encourage my young scholars to try extra hard for top marks. While learning and good grades are of course their own rewards, a little extra incentive never hurts! So thank you again for your generous gifts. They haven't gone to waste!”

• Help My Scholars Organize Their Classwork With Folders and Files

  Thank you for your generous gift. As a relatively new classroom teacher, I find one of the biggest challenges is helping students keep their work organized so that both they and I can monitor their progress and access their work samples easily. The folders and file system accessories provided are great tools that help me get a handle on the constant flow of paper-based assignments, which are still an issue, even when we seek to digitize a lot of assignments.

  As soon as the students received their folders, they went to work personalizing them so they could begin to store their writings assignments and quizzes. It is nice for them to have a sense of ownership of their work and to be able to look back through what they have done. I am excited to be able to do the same, as we will be emphasizing writing even more in the spring term than we did in the fall. So, again, thank you for helping us get more organized. I know my English and Creative Writing students are going to grow by leaps and bounds with the help of these valuable materials!”
