Finding Inspiration From Teachers Pay Teachers!
Funded May 17, 2022Thanks to your support, I have been able to use the "TeachersPayTeachers" gift cards to purchase an array of curriculum material for my 3-D Design and Art 1 classes. For example, a resource I purchased was a set of creative drawing prompts. These prompts were already arranged into a booklet that could be printed and copied for students. I have used several of these drawing prompts for my Art 1 class, especially at this point in the school year where students become anxious and antsy for Winter Break! Another resource I purchased was a short lesson on how to create ceramic spoon-rests. This was a great inspiration for 3-D Design 2's small sgraffito project, where I had them create ceramic spoon-rests that used a sgraffito design! I have purchased other resources that I haven't been able to implement yet, but it does give me inspiration and motivation to try new things with my students. THANK YOU again for helping with fulfilling this project!”

What Role Does Color Play in Three-Dimensional Forms?
Funded Apr 4, 2022Thanks to your support, we were able to provide a variety of color choices for my students in the 3-D Design classes! Luckily, this type of glaze could be mixed, which meant students were able to make more colors! We used the glaze for our coil bowls in 3-D Design 1 and for the tripod mugs in 3-D Design 2. The colors fired beautifully and the students are always surprised when I return the artwork to them! We also displayed these glazed artworks at our end-of-the-year district art show! Thank you again for helping us achieve this project!”

Funded Feb 28, 2022Thank you for supporting this project! It was so helpful being able to provide my students their own set of paintbrushes. This made it easier for them to take care of their materials, and actually majority of the students did! We ended up using the acrylic paint for the ceramic birdhouses and ceramic hands. We also used the paint when practicing our color mixing skills. While students do learn how to glaze their ceramic ware, acrylic paint allows them to make a variety of different colors! We so so much appreciate your help!”

Funded May 4, 2022Thank you for supporting this project. I was able to purchase a variety of glaze colors for our ceramic projects. Students enjoyed using the Mayco "Stroke & Coat" brand because you can mix the colors, similar to paint. While I do observe my students as they're glazing, it's fun being able to open the kiln and find out how the colors turned out! Students also enjoy seeing their completed ceramic ware! I did save some of the projects to be included in our district art show, which displays artwork from all of the high schools in our district! Thank you again for helping us out!!”

Funded Mar 13, 2022This was the perfect project for the end of the school year due to the low amount of prep required! This was also a great challenge for students because majority had little experience creating abstract sculptures. Abstraction can be a difficult concept, so it was important that students had the opportunity to experiment with the art supplies prior to creating their final piece. Having the extra supplies and materials available was helpful, and due to your donations, we were able to supply enough materials for everyone! Students had the choice to use the colored railroad board, acrylic paint, or spray paint, as methods for applying color. For some of my students, they had never used spray paint before! A few students were skeptical on how their completed works were considered "works of art", but this gave them the chance to work with a different type of art material. Most students enjoyed the process and challenge of creating an abstract sculpture where shapes were attached using slots, rather than glue.
Thank you again for your donations and allowing my students to experience a different type of art-making for the end of the school year!”

Funded Dec 1, 2021Due to your donations, I was able to purchase a variety of tools used in ceramics that allowed my students to expand their choices for adding textures to their artwork. For our Slab Birdhouse project, students used the plaster sprig molds to create forms that were applied to the surface (in ceramics, this is called an "appliqué). The plaster stamps of leaves were also very popular, since some students wanted to include nature-related imagery to their Birdhouses.
A few of my advanced students used the letter stamps to create plaques that were later glazed. I am thankful we were able to purchase these tools because they will be reused for the future. I also appreciate being able to provide tools that actual ceramic-artists use.
Thank you again for your support with this project!”

Funded Apr 24, 2021From your donations, I have been able to use the TeachersPayTeachers.com gift cards to purchase a variety of visual art lessons and activities that I can implement in all of my classes. TeachersPayTeachers.com has many resources and I enjoy that they are created by follow educators.
One example was a set of pencil shading worksheets that teach students on how to match values and not to rely on outlines when shading; I used this in my Art 1 class. This is a great skill-building exercise that prepares students for their main project, where they will sketch and shade a series of natural objects.
Another resources I purchased and have used is an art critique activity where students randomly receive a question on a ping-pong ball, which changes the process of assigning prompts to students.
I have focused on purchasing resources and lessons that can be reused. I feel lucky that I have access to these great ideas. Thank you again for helping me complete this project!”

Alternative Ways to Add Color in Ceramics Using Acrylic Paint
Funded Mar 29, 2021From the donations, I was able to purchase acrylic paint that was used to complete the ceramic Slab Birdhouses at home. In the 3-D Design 1 courses, students learn not only to complete their ceramic artworks using glaze, but also using acrylic paint. Painting clay is different than glazing, and allows students to add painterly effects and different colors.
Students were excited that they had so much paint to use, especially since they were having to paint at home. This ensured if they had made mistakes, they had enough supplies to paint over their work. Students explored and made lots of various colors!
Being able to send home paint ensured we could continue the majority of our curriculum, even though we were in distance learning. THANK YOU for your donations for this project!! Please check out the photos of student artwork!”

Ceramic Glazes for Distance Learning
Funded Jan 21, 2021For this project, I was able to purchase underglazes used for ceramic projects in the 3-D Design 2 and 3 classes. This made it immensely easier for me to offer glazing for the students since majority of them were in distance learning, which meant they had to complete their glazing at home.
Students were thrilled that they had a chance to use underglaze because you can mix the colors, meaning more possibilities on how to add color to their work. One student even used the underglazes for sgraffito, where parts of the clay are carved away when leather hard. When the work is fired, you see both color and the carved designs.
These were the exact same glazes we would use in the classroom, which helped create a sense of normalcy while learning at home. THANK YOU for your donations! Really, this made it less stressful in being able to continue our ceramic projects at home.”

Building Design Thinking Skills Through the Creation of Soap Carvings
Funded Nov 26, 2020It was exciting that I was able to teach a new project this year! In my classes, we usually focus on the additive-process of creating a sculpture, where one adds parts together to create a form. However, I wanted students to experience the subtractive-process, which can be difficult.
From your donations, I was able to purchase bars of soap in two sizes so students had the opportunity to practice and then create their final sculptures. This was a new experience for my students, which made it more challenging from having to complete this artwork at home.
This project helped my students realize that art can be made from ordinary materials and does not have to be expensive. Thank you again for your donations!”
