Many of my students travel up to an hour to attend school each day. They have families who support them as they dream of becoming the first person in their family to attend college. Although they come from impoverished areas of Boston and face seemingly insurmountable obstacles each day, my students work extremely hard and take accountability for their learning. They attend a public school with high expectations, and therefore the students have an extended day and copious amounts of schoolwork. They want to do their very best in school and they want to achieve their dream of attending college.
