We are requesting books for a classroom library that is diverse, inclusive, and interesting and at their independent reading levels. These individual books and book series will allow students to explore various genres and encourage students to make connections to their personal lives and explore new worlds. I will be using a variety of these books as a part of my everyday read-aloud instruction. Beyond simply hooking students into a lesson, read-alouds build foundational skills, from establishing vocabulary to scaffolding language instruction and developing comprehension. Read-alouds are usually done in a comfortable affective setting that allows all students to enjoy a text in a risk-free, low-stakes learning environment. Students are invited to question, wonder, and present alternative perspectives or opinions before, during, and after the reading processes. Read-alouds are an important part of literacy instruction because they are an act of power and freedom; they offer readers opportunities for critique and transformation. I am excited to include these diverse, interesting, and informative books in my classroom library. I believe these books have the power to transform my students' spirit, wonder, and life.
