  • Bouncing Our Way Through Learning

    Funded Apr 16, 2018

    Thank you so much for granting my students wish and providing other options for alternative seating in our 4th grade classroom. Due to unexpected changes in the program, there are now 32 students who utilize these flexible seating options daily and they are all so excited for their opportunity to use the new seating.

    My students were so excited to see the ball chairs and desk bouncy bands show up in the classroom. They opportunity to move without being distracting has been immensely helpful for some of my students. My students who do not need the opportunity to move, have also thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to sit more comfortably throughout the lesson.

  • A Case of the Wiggles

    Funded Feb 25, 2014

    I would like to thank you again for your help in getting my class these wiggle cushions. When I heard about this fantastic opportunity, I discussed with my students different items we would like to see in our classroom. I was so impressed by the suggestions the students gave. Their suggestions included more books for them to read, calculators for us to use, more math and language arts centers. I was so impressed by the thoughtfulness of their suggestions, that I offered to them the idea of us getting cushions for the chairs. As soon as I mentioned this idea, I could see their eyes light up.

    On a daily basis, you can see up to half of the class shifting and moving around in their seats, trying to find some way to be comfortable in the chairs. These cushions not only provide a softer surface for them, but they allow students to move

    around when they feel like they have been sitting for too long. The students were thrilled when I told them that our project was funded. When we got the cushions, they couldn't wait to try them out. We sat them on chairs and let each student sit on the cushions for a small period of time.

    These cushions are really going to make a huge difference in our classroom. By allowing them to move around slightly in their seats, it will reduce the number of times the students are getting out of their seats which means more time working on assignments.

  • Math Groups

    I would like to thank you again for your help in getting my class the calculators and math centers. The students were thrilled when I told them that our project was funded. When the materials arrived, the students and I were so excited. I couldn't way to go through the calculators and get them ready for us to use.

    The first time we used the calculators, we reviewed how to use them and then introduced the various functions on the calculators. We then practiced solving different problems using the calculators and then practiced how we will be using them in the classroom. The students solved a problem, and then used the calculators to check their work. It was fantastic to see their smiling faces when they realized that their answer was correct without having to wait for me to check it. It was also really helpful to students when they didn't have the problem correct. After talking with the students, we discussed why it is important to try a problem again if the answers don't match.

    The math centers also were a delight for the students. Many of them have never used the hot dot centers, so we reviewed how they work and the way we will work with these centers. They had a blast completing the review centers and the immediate feedback was great for the students.

    These materials are really going to make a huge difference in our classroom. By giving the students opportunity to be independent learners, I will be able to focus on the small group instructions to give them appropriate challenge questions and support.

  • Reading Area

    I would like to thank you again for your help in getting my class our new reading area. The students were thrilled when I told them that our project was funded. They have been especially looking forward to the new rug and the comfy reading pillows.

    The day the carpet arrived, my students were so excited. After I laid it down on the ground they all wanted to sit on the carpet. I thought that was their favorite thing we have gotten, until the pillows came. When they saw the pillows, they were so excited. They couldn't wait till it was time for independent reading so they could try them out.

    These materials are really going to make a huge difference in our classroom. By giving the students a comfortable place to read, they will be more willing to read independently. For some of the students, being able to read comfortably will help them to find their new favorite book.
