It is no secret that being well versed in technology is becoming increasingly more important. Technology might surround us, but in my classroom, we can't get enough-my students' engagement escalates every time they get access to a computer! As part of their personalized learning experience, each student participates in a program called Lexia Core 5; through Lexia, my students receive explicit, online, reading instruction that targets skill gaps; however, in order to complete their prescribed minutes, my students need access to functional technology. In addition to Lexia, giving my students access to chromebooks would allow for them to be able to complete research projects on topics they are passionate about, they would have access to websites like Epic! which reads stories aloud, they would be able to type out their stories before publishing, so that their stories look just like the stories we read in class-the possibilities are endless! As each student develops and learns at their own pace, having more access to technology in the classroom will allow for more opportunities for the third graders to receive instruction that will help them grow and exceed their goals.
