Scholastic news are kid-friendly resources for 2nd grade students to learn about current events, as well as historic topics and other interesting non-fiction topics. Last year, some interesting issues included articles about sit-ins during the civil right movement, how presidents are elected, and how kites fly! We use schoolastic news to practice responding to reading, and supporting answers with evidence from the text. Students love reading the magazines, and they help struggling readers stay motivated. There are questions on the back of each magazine for students to check their understanding. The best part is that students get to take home the magazine when they finish!
