• PBIS Rewards

  Yesterday our new PBIS rewards arrived to our classroom. Students were very enthusiastic that our community came together to help support their learning environment. Students were in awe and asking me to fill our prize box right away with new items they recieved.

  Students each will get at a minimum of one prize per week through your given donations. Students with positive behavior, work hard, and work well in community are all opportunites for students to earn a class prize.

  As a reminder PBIS rewards are crucial to help sustain classroom norms and expectations.”

• 5th Grade Promotion

  Funded May 4, 2022

  When I taught 5th grade It was my first year teaching and everything posed a challenge. We were coming out of the pandemic, and I was also teaching at a very low income school in Oakland. Donors Choose helped make this school year not nearly as challenging for me as it had been. This project alone had raised quite a bit that I was able to give these urban inner city school children a 5th grade promotion that they truly had earned. I will never forget how excited they were to have new school supplies, and party decorations they needed to celebrate such a huge milestone. This was especially impactful as many children come from migrant families that had recently came to our country.”

• Our Class Essentials

• PBIS Rewards

  With great pleasure I am reaching out to let you know these PBIS rewards have helped carry our class all fall and winter. Students get prizes when they have successful days or weeks in the classroom.

  Teaching truly takes a village, I could not get these students there and meet all the goals they have without support of my community and beyond. These kids need more than our school/ district is able to give so I appreciate those of you whom have stepped in to lend an extra hand to our class. I seriously cannot thank you guys enough. My class this year has become such great friends and a big part is due to our class community building and PBIS reward system.”

• Hungry Kids

  Funded Sep 2, 2023

  I am so thrilled this is funded. When children have adequate nutrition their brains are powered with energy and are ready to learn. I am so happy to be able to continue offering snacks to my students. This is a huge help and really appreciated. Thank you for thinking of room 5.”

• Math Fluency, It's Easy as 1, 2, 3!

  Thank you for your generous donations. Students were all gifted multiplication fluency flash cards in the middle of the year. When these kids arrived to 4th grade all students were at least 3 grade levels below in Math. Our class needed to first do lots of fluency review in both addition and subtraction before we could introduce multiplication.

  When we finally got to the second trimester, students were so excited to pull out the fluency flash cards. With practice we worked our way up to fluency bingo even. Today these kids have made so much progress in math.”

• Healthy Kids are Happy Kids

  Funded Aug 23, 2022

  Every day students are a little more focused in school and that is likely due to the fact they are well nourished. Students are given the breaks needed to rejuvinate their brain and have a daily snack. Prior to this project I was fully supporting this snack fund in my classroom on my own. Our entire school is apart of a the free lunch program where most children do not come to school with any food. With children learning all day it is imperative they take needed brain breaks if I expect them to continue learning. Thank you for all your help in reaching our class goal.”

• Cultures From Around the World

  This is such a gift! This project will reach 26 students, allow these children to learn about cultures all around the world. You are helping raise culturally competent children, and I thank you for that. You are providing materials to allow multiple creative art projects for now through the end of the year, including a fun “parents” day project in May. My heart is full, it truly takes a village.”

• Outdoor Classroom

  Funded Apr 14, 2022

  Haivng extra resources to have an outdoor classroom has made teaching so much easier. Students this year and the previous have gotten to benefit from this. There are even times other teachers have asked to borrow our outdoor materials when they have earned it. Room 201 has been so greatful to have access to balls, chalk among other things.

  There are some days I will take the students outdoors to play soccer for a bonus added incentive. There have also been times where we have used the chalk to practice our multiplication fluency facts. Thank you for your added support.”

• 4th Graders on the Go

  Funded Feb 5, 2023

  In a matter of days this project was fully funded. I want to thank my supporters for giving my classroom this opportunity. I am excited to be able to give positive incentives going forward for hard work and achievement. In addition, I have kinesthetic learners and now will be able to practice fluency facts as I did myself in the 4th grade with jump ropes.”
