Reading Lounge
Funded May 1, 2025The lounge area is not quite complete. I still need to get a rug and some additional reading books. However, as you can see the books, the bookshelf and the bean bag will fit nicely into this space in the fall semester. Our school is out in about 10 days so I decided it woud be wonderful to start out the school year with a lounge.
I plan to use it as an external motivator to keep themselves caught up with school work. If they are, then they may sign up on the list to use the reading lounge for 15-20 minutes at a time. That is plenty of time for them to whet their palettes for fun reading, build vocabulary and increase reading fluency too.
Our school uses iReady software for reading assessment benchmarks. But, I hope that materials they can hold in their hands would allow us to go back to in person reading. I have laminated fluency sheets at various grade levels so this is something that I may use just to see if holding books and reading to people is a strategy that helps my budding readers. Thank you for the inspiration.”

Funded Oct 11, 2024The hygiene kits provided our class an opportunity to read an informational article and watch a video, then discuss teen health and hygiene issues that affect students. We learned valuable social skills and wrote a reflective journal entry to think about personal hygiene and gratitude. Please enjoy reading and viewing their expressions of gratefulness.
Lastly, I want to thank you for allowing me to let my students know they are loved. I hope and believe that this one small act of kindness will pay itself forward in the years to come as these students become funtional adults. Blessings to you and your household this holiday season.”
