Culturally Relevant Books for Kindergarten Scholars

Thank you for allowing our classroom to have more books that look like us and represent many of our cultures. These books will allow us to see ourselves in the stories and motivate us to become the best we can be. As a diverse class it is great to learn about each other and learn how we can get along. These books will help us make a deeper connection to ourselves and also to our friends. We will be using these books to read often in the classroom and learn about each other and how we can be better and love ourselves more.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Dollar General Literacy Foundation and 5 other donors.

The books we add to our library will be used to learn about different things. Having culturally relevant books in the classroom library will help the students make significant connections to what we are learning in the classroom. It will provide books that we can read for reading aloud as well and use to learn about each other. It will enhance the lessons by showing something the students are familiar with and can make a connection to. The students will be better engaged in the lessons and will see themselves in the books we are reading.
