Help them learn to love reading by keeping them engaged in the literacy based activities we can create after reading given stories. Help them feel seen and represented. As mentioned prior, it is essential and imperative that students feel seen and represented in their classroom and therapy room settings. Feeling seen and represented has been shown to help build confidence, pride, and self-esteem in ones self. In addition, when working in culturally-linguistically diverse neighborhoods it is important to create a warm environment, especially one in which I can implement culturally response teaching in everything that we do, not just in one activity.
