As part of our Social Studies unit, students are learning about Immigration on the Lower East Side, past, present and future. We need an Apple Macbook to research archives and learn about the voices of individuals not often heard from in history, including immigrants from Eastern Europe, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and China. We need a laptop computer to properly edit and design the short film/documentary we are going to collaboratively write and produce. We are focusing on communities that currently comprise the unique culture of the East Village. These neighborhoods reflect the different cultures found in our classrooms and celebrate the differences and similarities in all of our experiences as immigrants. We are interested in making connections between students' past, present and future by creating a compilation of interviews, clips and archived materials then, comparing this information with the current state of immigration in our community. We look forward to sharing our film with students in our community and school district.
