  • Help Make Learning Fun: Games Needed

    Funded Apr 8, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project! My students have LOVED playing games and thinking outside of the box during class. On the Friday before Spring Break, attendance and morale were low, so instead of plowing on with test prep we took a brain break and played some games. The kids had so much fun! I had a group of students who wanted to play Monopoly because they'd heard of it -- but had never played. It was a great learning experience and a real treat to teach the kids something different and watch them try to buy all the properties.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really makes a difference!”

  • Help! Bookbags for Students Needed

    Funded Jan 25, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my students with new book bags! This project was a hit as it not only gave students a bag to use for school, but allowed them to be creative and showcase their interests. Watching students get excited for designing their bags warmed by heart, as it took away the stigma of not having access to a book bag. I also loved seeing students use the Cricut and teach each other how to design images and use the heat press.

Thank you again for your continued support and generosity! It really does make a huge difference!”

  • On the Come Up: Books Needed

    Funded Dec 21, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project and allowing me to put this amazing book into my students' hands! It has been such a spectacular success — students love the book and said they have felt more connected to this novel than any other we've read this year. The novel's key theme of ambition has also tied in nicely with other literary works we've read, so students have made excellent textual connections. I plan on arranging a field trip to see the movie once it becomes available, as my students are so excited to see the book come to life!

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • We Need the 'Write' Stuff: Pens, Pencils, and Markers

    Funded Jan 18, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing the most important tools for my students -- pens and pencils!

At the front of my classroom, I've created a holder that contains pens, pencils, and highlighters for students to use. They are always available for students, so if they need a pencil or a pen for their classwork there's no excuse. For my students, having access to a pen or pencil that allows them to quickly get to work has made all the difference in their success.

My students also loved the special heart-shaped pens for Valentine's Day. It made their writing activity a little more exciting.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Let's Get Crafty: Cricut Supplies For Craft Club

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this project! My students LOVE using the Cricut machine and it has helped them become more engaged students and citizens.

Earlier this month, students made t-shirts, tote bags, and a bulletin board to celebrate Women's History Month. Seeing students to eager to come to school and participate in activities, while showcasing their creativity has been an amazing experience. The skills students are learning designing the materials and promoting advocacy events are so important.

Thank you again for your continued support! You have really made a huge difference in not only my classroom but the entire school. My students are already planning their next Cricut projects!”

  • Help Us Keep Our Classroom Clean!

    Funded Nov 8, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project to help keep our classroom clean! For Valentine's Day today, I had a fun project planned for students in my AP English class and while students were having fun learning, it also got a little messy. Thanks to your donation, students were able to clean their desks and sweep up and candy that fell on the floor. Not only does this make things easier for our custodian, but it also helps keep our room clean for other classes. It also helps provide a sense of ownership of our classroom, as students want a clean, safe space to work, too.

Thank you again for your continued support!”

  • Making Financial Literacy Come Alive: Cricut Needed

    Funded Oct 26, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my classroom with a Cricut! The machine has been transformational when it comes to projects and classroom activities. Watching the Cricut cut card stock or vinyl, students are amazed at its capabilities.

Students have loved being able to create designs for their tote bags and sweatshirts. This has in turn taught students about supply and demand, production costs, start-up fees, and selling.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • 'There is No Frigate Like a Book': Poetry Books Needed

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

    Gratitude— is not the mention

    Of a Tenderness,

    But it's still appreciation

    Out of Plumb of Speech.

    --Emily Dickinson, 989

Thank you so very much for funding this project. Emily Dickinson is one of my favorite poets and I am so thrilled to be able to share my love for her with my students. We've begun reading several of her more famous poems and students are hooked. At first they were confused by all the dashes and randomly capitalized words, but have learned to read into them and to decipher Dickinson's purpose.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • College Application Inspiration and Resources Needed

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! Our school tries to create college awareness encourages all students to apply to college before they graduate. However, many students struggle picking schools. The college pennants you donated have helped create more conversations around college and different schools. We created a bulletin board display in the main hallway using many of the pennants with a note indicating they represent colleges LACJ graduates have attended. Students have stopped and asked about certain universities and have even expressed some surprise to know that students from our school have go on to Ivy League colleges.

My seniors have especially appreciated the books donated, as they have used them to help get ideas on how to improve their personal statements.

Thank you again for your amazing support! It really has made a difference and has helped foster a college-bound attitude among students.”

  • Mask Up: Masks and Hand Sanitizer Needed

    Funded Jan 4, 2022

I cannot begin to thank you enough for funding this project. This year, masks and hand sanitizer are perhaps the most important things in my classroom. Earlier this year I created a bin for masks that I keep in the front of our classroom. Students know they can always get a new mask when needed. While we can all agree that wearing a mask all day at school isn't the most comfortable, students like being able to pick a mask that adds some flair to their outfit or just looks fun while they're keeping safe. As I was putting new masks in the bin earlier today, several students got really excited at the new prints and patterns, explaining how they were going to match their shirt to their mask tomorrow.

Having hand sanitizer at school has also been a huge help, as students are able to quickly sanitize as needed.

Thank you again for your continued support and for helping to keep us all safe while we learn. It is greatly appreciated!”

The majority of my students qualify for the free-reduced lunch program and getting them to provide even the most basic of school supplies for themselves is challenging. The few students who do have access to technology, barely know how to conduct a Google search or how to use spell check in Microsoft Word. It is sad that for some students, double spacing an essay means hitting the space bar twice after each word.
