Help! Books Needed for AP English
Funded Jun 5, 2017Thank you so much for funding my proposal, "Help! Books Needed for AP English!"
We just finished reading Oedipus Rex, and my students loved digging into this complex text. By providing students with their own copy of the text to annotate and read, their understanding of the title character and his fate greatly increased. It also helped increase student engagement, as the class was actively reading and taking notes. Today we finished a discussion on Freud and Oedipus in which students found evidence in the play relating to the psychoanalytic theory. Many of my students are currently taking AP Psychology, so the cross connections have been wonderful.
I cannot wait to experience with them Ethan Frome and A Christmas Carol, two other books you funded.
Thank you again for your support. It really does make a difference!”

Feed Our Minds: Snacks and Water Needed for Hungry Students
Funded Sep 14, 2017Thank you so very much for funding this important proposal, "Feed Our Minds: Snacks and Water Needed for Hungry Students!"
The water you donated was especially appreciated today, as it is 90 degrees outside and feels like 90+ inside my classroom. At the end of the day, the classroom was stuffy and students who just came from gym were exhausted and sweaty. I was able to give them a bottle of water to cool off and rehydrate, and it changed the atmosphere in my classroom. Within a few minutes, students had more energy and were actively engaged in the lesson.
Thank you again for your amazing donation. It really does make a difference!”

Funded Sep 22, 2017Thank you so much for funding my proposal, "Making Learning Bright: Colored Copy Paper Needed!"
The copy paper arrived today and I instantly put it to good use for students in my AP English class. We are working on analyzing how an author's use of syntax helps shape the meaning of the work, and I was able to copy a cheat sheet of syntactical devices on a piece of bright yellow paper. By using the brightly colored paper, my students were able to quickly locate the resource in their binders. It also made the material just a bit more exciting through the use of color.

Bringing Literature to Life with Art: Painting Supplies Needed
Funded Jun 2, 2017Thank you so very much for funding my proposal, "Bringing Literature to Life with Art: Painting Supplies Needed!"
I was able to use the art supplies you donated with my AP English Literature class, and they created new book covers for their summer reading texts. The project allowed my students to show their understanding of the texts in a creative manner, and got them thinking about imagery and symbolism on a deeper level.
Thank you again for your continued support! In a school where only seniors (12th graders) get to take art, your donation means more students get to experience the creative process.”

Funded Apr 8, 2017Thank you so very much for funding my proposal, "Help! Basic Supplies Needed for English Class!"
Your donation has allowed my students to be more engaged in their learning, through art projects and interactive activities that would not be possible without the right supplies. My students are currently working on a final project blending their English analytical skills with art, and everything you've donated has supported their work.

Feed Our Minds: Hungry Students Need Snacks
Funded Mar 15, 2017Thank you so very much for funding my proposal, "Feed Our Minds: Hungry Students Need Snacks!"
Your donation has been a huge lifesaver for my students. After the AP test last week, students were left without lunch when the test ran longer than planned. Thanks to your donation, I was able to give the 18 students some granola bars to get them through the afternoon. The water bottles that were also included in your donation have also been greatly appreciated by my students. With today's hot weather, my classroom was a toasty 90 degrees, and my students' energy level was almost at zero. Many students complained about feeling lightheaded or dehydrated, so I was able to give them a bottle of water to cool down.
Thank you again for your amazing donation. It really has made a world of difference for my students!”

The Catcher in the Rye: Books Needed
Funded May 2, 2017Thank you so very much for funding my proposal, "The Catcher in the Rye: Books Needed!"
I just received the books last week, and my kids are already head-over-heels for this novel. They are loving reading about Holden's adventures in NYC, especially since my students attend school in Manhattan. The discussions we've been able to have with this text have really allowed my students to show the depth of their critical thinking skills.

Making Learning Bright: Colored Copy Paper Needed
Funded Mar 29, 2017Thank you so very much for funding my proposal, "Making Learning Bright: Colored Copy Paper Needed!"
I teach in a Title I school, with very limited funding for basics like copy paper -- let alone colored copy paper. With your donation, my students were able to get copies of class calendars and assignments. By color-coding assignments, I have been able to differentiate my instruction and assist those who need extra help keeping organized on track.

Funded Dec 18, 2016Thank you so much for funding my proposal, "To Read or Not to Read? Shakespeare's Hamlet Books Needed!"
The students in my AP English Literature class are a bright, enthusiastic group of seniors who really enjoy being challenged. Hamlet ended up being the perfect challenge for them, as they loved Hamlet's changing character and the complex language of the play. We ended up putting on a little Hamlet performance once we finished reading the play, and my students absolutely loved playing the parts and transforming our classroom into a theater.

Bringing Literature to Life with Art: Supplies Needed
Funded Dec 21, 2016Thank you so much for funding my proposal, "Bringing Literature to Life with Art: Supplies Needed!"
My students are a creative group of teenagers who love being able to express themselves. It's a win-win situation when students are able to show what they know and understand regarding literature using art. Your supplies have certainly come in handy this year, as my students have just completed two art-based projects for our unit of study on Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. With your donation of scissors, glue, paper, markers, and colored pencils, students were able to create setting maps to help them understand the different settings in the novel. They also used the supplies for their 1920s research posters, which helped them understand the novel's time period -- and which look beautiful hanging in our school's central hallway.
Thanks again for your donation and support. It really does make a difference!”
