  • Literature and Mental Health Through Art: Supplies Needed

    Funded Jun 2, 2021

Wow! I am blown away by your generosity! Thank you so much for your continued support. I am so excited to be able to use these art supplies to help my students heal, process the curriculum, and be creative this fall.

One of our first projects will be creating pieces of the wallpaper from the short story, "The Yellow Wallpaper." Students will use canvas, paint, and other materials to create a multi-media depiction of the wallpaper from their section of the story. We will put all pieces together when finished to show the character's progression. This short story and creative activity will also allow for good discussions on mental health, isolation, and gender norms.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! I look forward to sharing pictures with you this fall.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gionti

  • Digging Into Shakespeare: Books Needed

    Funded May 24, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project and enabling me to introduce my students to Shakespeare! I'm so excited to have my students read Shakespeare's sonnets and his play, Othello, this fall. Because of remote learning, I haven't been able to teach Shakespeare in a hands-on manner I prefer (it's way more fun to get up and act the parts!), so reading the play together in class this fall will be a treat.

I know my students will greatly appreciate having a copy of the poems and the play they can annotate and keep. Students always feel more connected to the literature when they have their own copy and can make connections.

Thank you again for your continued support! I look forward to sharing pictures of our reading and acting this fall!”

  • Where the Crawdads Sing: Books Needed

    Funded May 28, 2021

Thank you so very much for funding this project and allowing me to give these books to my students. I distributed the books as a fun summer reading for students who will be in my AP English Literature class next year. Over the summer, we'll do a few check-ins and book talks discussing the novel. My students were excited to read the book, as they've heard a movie is coming out based on the novel next year.

I look forward to sharing pictures of our discussions with the book in September. Thank you again for your continued support. Your donations have made such an impact!”

  • Making English Class Electric: Classroom Electronics Needed

    Funded May 24, 2021

Wow! Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and our students. I am blown away by your generosity.

I've been working hard this past week organizing and setting things up for our return to the classroom in September, and these electronics are already being put to use. I was able to use the printer to print some new labels and signs to organize supplies. I cannot even begin to tell you how nice it is to have a working printer!

I know my students will greatly appreciate these items and I look forward to sharing pictures of them in use this fall.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Extra! Extra! Printer Needed For Student Journalism Program

    Funded May 7, 2021

A million thank yous for funding this project and bringing in a printer into our classroom!

My students in the journalism program are so excited to actually be able to print their articles and drafts next year. They are also looking forward to being able to see a printout of their layouts -- something that makes their work seem much more real.

I cannot thank you enough for supporting our program! It really does make a difference! I look forward to sharing pictures with you of their work in the fall!”

  • The 'Importance' of Literature: Books and Tea Party Supplies Needed

    Funded May 24, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project and allowing me to create a fun, educational experience for my students! I am so looking forward to reading the play in class next fall (since we will all be in person, yay!) and then having a tea party to discuss and celebrate our work.

Experiences like these are the ones students tend to most remember about school, and I'm thankful to you all for making this happen. I also plan to teach students about Victorian etiquette and fashion to enhance the experience.

Thank you again for your continued support! I will be posting pictures in the fall once we've had our party. And if you'd like to Zoom in, I'm sure we can make that happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gionti

  • Where to Work? Workstation and Desk Needed

    Funded May 5, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! Our school is currently under construction and classrooms have been emptied while the building replaces ventilation, lighting, and adds new whiteboards. Sadly, with all of the construction, some of our desks and workspaces have become damaged. However, with your donation, we will have a brilliant new workspace for students to work on the computer, craft, and study.

I look forward to sharing pictures of our finished classroom and students using the resources later this summer.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Double, Double, Toil, and Trouble: Macbeth Books Needed

    Funded May 3, 2021

Thank you so very much for funding this project! This year, with school being fully remote, I wasn't able to teach Shakespeare the way I love to -- by getting up and acting it out and having fun with the language. Thanks to your donation, I will be able to get my students up on their feet in the fall while we act out parts of Macbeth.

Your donation also enables students to take ownership of their learning and to be able to annotate to show their understanding of the text.

I am so very grateful for your continued support of not only my classroom but of my colleagues and our school. You can't even begin to imagine how much of an impact you have made. I look forward to sharing an update with you in the fall on how students are enjoying the play and some pictures of Shakespeare fun!”

  • Help Us Get Organized: Binders Needed

    Funded Apr 8, 2021

Thank you so much for funding this project! I cannot even begin to tell you how important having binders are for my students. When most of my students start the year, their organization skills leave much to be desired. But with your donation of binders and other organizers, students learn to label, file, and order key materials. It is amazing how much a binder can help students take ownership and responsibility for their work.

Thank you again for your continued support. We greatly appreciate everything you have done to help our school community. I look forward to being able to share pictures and thank you notes as soon as we're able.”

  • Take Note: Composition Notebooks Needed for English Class

    Funded Apr 8, 2021

I cannot begin to thank you enough for this donation. Notebooks are perhaps the most basic but most essential supply for our classroom. I am thrilled that each of my students now has their own notebook for our journal prompts, lecture notes, and homework assignments.

I love seeing how students begin to take ownership of their writing when they have their own notebook. It's also amazing to see students' progress throughout the year -- all in one notebook.

Your generosity to our students and to our school has been game-changing. Thank you again for your continued support. It really does make a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gionti

The majority of my students qualify for the free-reduced lunch program and getting them to provide even the most basic of school supplies for themselves is challenging. The few students who do have access to technology, barely know how to conduct a Google search or how to use spell check in Microsoft Word. It is sad that for some students, double spacing an essay means hitting the space bar twice after each word.
