  • Let’s Build: LEGOs Needed for STEM Activities

    Funded Nov 7, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my students with various Lego kits!

I cannot begin to tell you how excited my students have been about these Legos. When the boxes arrived, the kids opened the packages and cheered as each new kit was unveiled. Then, there was some serious discussion as they decided which set to build first. Eventually, the kids settled on the Statue of Liberty and set to work. A group of six boys (high school juniors and seniors) stayed as late as they could that very same day to start building. Then, they all came to school early the next morning to finish their work. When I got to my classroom that day, Lady Liberty stood on my desk, greeting me.

One of the greatest gifts of your donation has been watching students get so excited about building things and working together without being glued to their phones. Students who are usually a little more reserved have come out of their shells, explaining steps to others, and students who never seem interested in anything have now gotten excited about being in school.

Thank you again for your generosity. It has already made such an impact.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gionti

  • Books Needed: A Doll's House and The Metamorphosis

    Funded Sep 9, 2024

Thank you for funding this project and allowing me to bring these great books into my classroom!

We've just begun reading The Metamorphosis, and it's been fascinating to see the students' reactions to Gregor's plight. I love it when students start asking questions about the reading independently, and this book has provided many thought-provoking questions. Why did Gregor transform into a bug? What kind of bug? Why is his family treating him like that?

In the spring, we'll begin reading A Doll's House, which I know students will enjoy, too. They will be able to make connections between Gregor and Nora (and a few other characters we've encountered this year) about being an outsider.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Art Supplies Needed for Social-Emotional Learning

    Funded May 14, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my students with art supplies! With so much happening in the world today, being able to destress by making art has been a game-changer for my students. We are currently working on a neurographic art project that promotes mindfulness. Students are using the markers and paper donated to create a form of art therapy. Watching the students make art and seeing them relax and not be anxious was such a joy.

Students also used the art supplies for their propaganda posters related to Animal Farm. They loved taking what they learned in class and creatively showing their learning.

Thanks again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Art Supplies Needed for English Class Projects

    Funded Oct 22, 2024

Thank you so much for funding my project and providing my classroom with much-needed art supplies!

The supplies have already been an enormous help, as students used the Sharpies and markers for our Neurographic art project. The project is designed to help students relieve stress and anxiety. Watching students get lost in their art while developing a sense of calm has been game-changing.

The colored pencils and markers were also a big help as students in my English 10 class began working on their Animal Farm propaganda posters. After analyzing elements of propaganda, students created a poster with an original slogan that used two types of propaganda to encourage the animals to fight for Animalism. My students appreciated not having to scrounge up supplies on their own for this project.

Thank you again for your continued support. It really does make a difference!”

  • Craft Supplies for Mental Health Support

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my students with much-needed arts and crafts supplies!

My students have already had so much fun creating art projects (as pictured). They've loved using the different materials to experiment with designs and creations. Yesterday, one of my students exclaimed that making her craft was the most relaxed she'd felt in a while. My students are already looking forward to the next craft project -- painting the rocks you donated.

Thank you again for your continued support! It really does make a difference!”

  • Bringing Literature to Life: 3D Printer Needed

    Funded May 11, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my class with a 3D printer!

My students absolutely love designing and printing things on our printer. One of the first things printed was the bust of William Shakespeare, and he proudly sits on our classroom bookcase on display. Several students have also designed cute little crows that have populated our classrooms (as pictured).

Thank you again for providing my students with this amazing technology! Because of your donation, they are exposed to new ideas, mediums, and technology.”

I look forward to sharing an update and pictures of their creations!”

  • Journals and Sketchbooks Needed for Social-Emotional Learning

    Funded Jul 11, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project and providing my students with journals and sketchbooks!

We've already begun using our journals during the first week, and students love having a dedicated notebook for English class. They also love the size and design, adding that it makes taking notes and responding to journal prompts a little more fun. Students in my Mixed Media art classes spent the week decorating the covers of their sketchbooks, personalizing them with their names and character traits. They are excited to get sketching!

Thank you again for your continued support! Your donation makes such a difference!”

  • Sending Comfort and Cheer: Supplies Needed

    Funded Mar 20, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation of craft and card-making supplies for our students. Your thoughtful contribution enabled our students to create thinking of you cards for senior citizens at an assisted living facility in nearby Chinatown, impacting both our students and the recipients.

With the supplies you provided, our students have been able to unleash their creativity and compassion. They have crafted beautiful cards with heartfelt messages that brought joy and warmth to the senior citizens who received them.

Your kindness and generosity have made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the seniors in our community. I am deeply grateful for your support and for helping me teach my students the importance of giving back and making a positive impact.”

The majority of my students qualify for the free-reduced lunch program and getting them to provide even the most basic of school supplies for themselves is challenging. The few students who do have access to technology, barely know how to conduct a Google search or how to use spell check in Microsoft Word. It is sad that for some students, double spacing an essay means hitting the space bar twice after each word.
