As a first-year middle school art teacher, I never imagined that I would find myself remotely teaching from home and that my students would be learning new material through video conferencing calls and recorded home videos. My amazing students have been working incredibly hard using the assignments that I have given them with Google Classroom. They are resilient and resourceful. As I try to create art assignments that any student can complete it has become apparent that many of my students are missing basic art supplies.
I have heard the frustration in the voices of students who are unable to add color to a drawing because they don't have markers or crayons. I do my best to give tips and tricks to add variation to their creations but I know first hand the joy of opening a fresh box of colored pencils and using them for the very first time. I would like to offer this simple pleasure to each one of my students.
