  • Calculators, We Need Calculators!

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you for helping provide our math classroom with wonderful new calculators! We are overjoyed to report that our new calculators have arrived and are in the hands of our enthusiastic mathematicians! Our students are terrifically inspired by the fact that their academic achievement is supported by members of their community that exist outside of the four walls of the school. It's very reassuring to know that you all support our classroom.

The introduction of our new calculators has come at a wonderful time in the year. We are more than halfway through our academic calendar and our new calculators have rejuvenated our studies. We are now working hard to prepare for the summation of our studies, and promise to make you all proud. Thanks to your generosity, we now can view our calculations and visualize graphic representations of quantity in full color!

Thank you for your support of our classroom, we absolutely honor your kindness.”

  • Computer Programming Materials for Beginners!

    Funded Sep 5, 2015

Thank you all for bringing this project to vivid life! Your generosity has allowed us to being a course in computer programming that honors the captivating foundations of the studies of electronics, circuitry, and building! My students were overjoyed to oversee the arrival of our new building materials, lights, bells, whistles, and all!

You have all made it possible to give students the gift of appreciating the beginnings of electronics and computers at a time when most of us take our cell phones, alarm clocks, and laptops for granted.

Through this course, I hope to highlight the absolute joys of building circuits and evolving over the year to connect the basics of circuitry to modern computing technology along with robotics exploration.

Thank you all for your outstanding kindness. We deeply appreciate your contribution to our classroom!”

  • Music Equipment Will Help Us Raise Our Voices!

    Funded Jan 26, 2015

Thank you all for bringing this project to life! There are few gifts better for children than those that will last a lifetime. You have all contributed to a project that aims to give the gift of musical expression to children, while helping to build organizational, teamwork, and social skills that will carry long into their futures.

I started this project using only my personal instruments. Students are at the foundation of this project and have opened packages containing brand new music gear that they will use throughout upcoming years. The smiles on the faces of my students as they recognize that their musical experience is supported and curated by community members outside of the school is among the most fulfilling experiences of my life.

My students will be using these materials to develop a skill set that will support their exploration of the world. Music provides a healing, expressive, and powerful gift that cannot be compared to any other experience. Thank you all for supporting my students in a way that will stay with them throughout their lives.

We deeply honor your support of our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Seymour

  • Synthesizers and Supplies for Student Success!

    Funded Jan 26, 2015

Thank you for your continuing support of our mission to bring the power of music to our students. We are deeply moved by your generosity and rejuvenated in knowing that community members such as yourselves support students in developing their musical talents. It is always an absolute high point of my career when I get to share the experience of unboxing and plugging in new equipment with students. This experience is absolutely magical for students, when they see that they are supported by people outside of the school. You have considerably improved the lives of many of my students. You have brightened bad days and have helped put musical instruments in the hands of students that otherwise would not have had the chance to experience such joy.

Thanks to you all, we have gotten to the part where students are creating music, expressing themselves through song, and have found a sense of joy in the school building. We started the year with absolutely nothing, outside of my personal musical instruments. We are now deep into the process of exploring historical meaning and social implications of popular music.

Our students are now becoming better equipped to navigate their ideas, finding kinship in sentiments expressed musically by others. Student self-confidence is growing and students that take part in our rock band are working more like teammates than ever. You have given to our classroom the limitless joys of being musicians and we are deeply grateful for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Seymour

  • Please Help Get the Band Back Together!

    Funded Jan 15, 2015

Thank you all for your part in bringing this life-changing opportunity to our students. As a child, I had the extreme fortune to have been taught music appreciation and the nearly indescribable joys that accompany musical expression. I have taken it as a part of my mission to bring the same joy to public school students in our wonderful city. Witnessing the happiness and character building that my students experience when they participate in the student rock band is among the most fulfilling parts of my day. My students all recognize that you have helped them achieve this experience. They will take these moments of musical expression and appreciation and carry them for the rest of their lives, hopefully sharing the same with others. For this, you have all contributed to an endless cycle of immense joy. We could not have done this without you. You all have our deepest gratitude and we honor your generosity.”

Thank you all for bringing this grant idea to life! Our students were quite happy to see some essential cleaning and organizational supplies arrive to our classroom. It really makes a difference when students walk into a space that feels invested in and well maintained. It has become a joy to be able to do simple things like clean tables and vacuum the room. Additionally, we've been able to hang some personal math-related prints to improve the aesthetic value of the math classroom. Thanks to you all we feel supported and believed in. We promise to never let you down.”

Outstanding mathematicians with unlimited potential abound in my classroom this year! I am a proud teacher of 90 wonderful 7th grade math students. We live in a high-needs New York community where over 90% of our school's population are English learners and considered "economically disadvantaged." In spite of the obstacles in their lives outside of school, my students are always eager to learn and I strive to create an environment in which success through continued education becomes achievable.
