  • Research Crew in Laboratory Coats!

    Funded May 20, 2024

I am thrilled to share the incredible impact your generous contributions have had on my students. The new lab coats have become a transformative addition to our classroom, symbolizing empowerment and curiosity. My students wore them during labs and at our annual science symposium, and their reactions were priceless. Seeing themselves in lab coats, they felt like real scientists, which significantly boosted their confidence and enthusiasm for learning. For instance, during our recent project on planaria regeneration, the students were fully engaged and took their work more seriously, thanks to the sense of professionalism the lab coats provided. Looking ahead, we plan to focus on urban forest management and climate concerns, where students will continue to wear their lab coats as they monitor restoration sites and evaluate management practices. Your support has not only provided essential materials but also inspired my students to see themselves as the scientists they aspire to be. Thank you for making this possible.”

  • Let's Experiment, Fail, Learn and Repeat!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you all for your contributions!

As the students came in, I saw the excitement on their faces. They were happy to finally see a sink in their classroom. We have used the sink ever since and continue doing so daily. So far, we have conducted experiments and/or investigations such as "Exercise and Cellular Respiration" and "Molecular movement and temperature using cold and hot water." During the week, we also use the sink to care for our fish and oyster tank; as well as our journal painting class. Students have also been practicing hand hygiene throughout the day. The school as a whole was grateful for this contribution, as it as decreased the trafficking in the hallway to the outside sink. Students will continue to use this resource throughout the year, as well as future students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eve

  • For the LOVE of Reading!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

First I would like to say Thank you! Your contributions went a long way. Many of the students expressed their gratitude for the new books added to the library. Some of the books were introduced as additional resources to expand their understanding of topics such as, water pollution, physical science, life science and processes; as well as topics for students to develop solutions for change.

To incorporate Science Literacy, students were often given the option to read independently after they've completed tasks or assessments. Often students may request/sign-out books for leisure reading - many have shared their interests in "You Should See Me in a Crown."

The students who have expressed interest were often struggling readers. While encouraging Science Literacy, students were more interested in books they could relate to. We are grateful for your support and for you to be apart of this initiative, as we tackle Literacy.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Eve

To support differentiation and my NEST students, students will be given the option to use the devices chosen to not only encourage reading but to download additional books. The books chosen will allow students to be exposed to a variety of cultures and are culturally-relevant to the students in my classroom. They are then able to gain more perspective, fostering more discussions in the class and at home. As a Science teacher, I also wanted to support Science Literacy. These books will be used when tasks or assessments are completed.
