My students are fortunate enough to have individual computers. We also have many web based resources that the students use daily in the classroom to increase student achievement. Students are able to listen to books on their level. They can play math games to reinforce skills being taught in math class. They also complete many spelling activities online where they need to hear their words and spelling patterns. At any given time during their independent work time you could hear the hum of 25 different computers being used. While some students are able to block out the hum, many students are easily distracted by the extra noise and lose focus on what they need to be successful. With generous donations, my students will be able to focus all their attention on the individualized tasks they are working on. I currently have the special needs clusters, so a number of my students are below grade level. I have many levels of instruction; while I am meeting with small groups, students are reading books at their individual levels independently. They are also working on different skills during their word study time; they will have different word patterns that they are studying. During independent math time, students will have the opportunity to work on mastering math facts specific to their needs. Technology is the way of the future and I'd like to be able to give the students one more piece of technology to support their learning. I am hoping that high quality headphones and protective cases will be used not only for this class but with future classes as well.
