  • Germs Be Gone!

    Funded Jul 1, 2024

On behalf of my 1st grade Space Rangers, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of sanitizing wipes and technology cleaning wipes. Your support has made an immeasurable difference in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment for our students in the Gulfton area of Houston, Texas.

As we all know, the past few years have underscored the critical importance of hygiene and cleanliness in schools, especially in the context of the ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of illnesses. In a classroom filled with energetic and curious first graders, ensuring that surfaces and frequently touched items are clean is an essential part of keeping both students and teachers safe. With the influx of students returning to in-person learning, sanitizing supplies have become more necessary than ever. Thanks to Chevron's generosity, we now have the necessary materials to ensure that our classroom remains a safe space for both learning and growth.

Your donation of sanitizing wipes is especially appreciated in a classroom setting where young children are still developing habits related to personal hygiene and cleanliness. First graders, while incredibly eager to learn, often need reminders about washing hands and keeping shared spaces clean. Your contribution will allow us to instill these habits while simultaneously maintaining a germ-free environment. These wipes are used daily to clean desks, chairs, door handles, and other high-traffic surfaces, reducing the risk of spreading germs. This not only protects students from common colds and flu but also gives parents peace of mind, knowing their children are learning in a safe environment.

Moreover, the technology cleaning wipes you provided have been equally invaluable. In today's digital learning era, our students frequently use tablets, laptops, and other technological devices in the classroom. While these tools have revolutionized the way students learn, they are also prone to accumulating dust, dirt, and fingerprints, which can harbor germs. Your donation ensures that we can regularly and thoroughly clean these devices, allowing students to use them safely. Clean devices also function better and last longer, which helps our school stretch its resources and ensure that technology remains an integral part of the educational experience.

Beyond the practical benefits, your donation sends a powerful message to our students, staff, and the broader community. It demonstrates Chevron's commitment to education, public health, and corporate social responsibility. The children in our classroom may not fully understand the complexities of corporate giving, but they do know that someone cares enough about their health and well-being to provide the supplies they need to stay safe and healthy. This kind of support fosters a culture of caring and community, which is vital for young learners who are beginning to understand the value of helping others and contributing to the greater good.

We deeply appreciate Chevron's investment in the health and safety of our students. Your contribution has had a ripple effect—helping not only the students in this classroom but also their families and the larger school community. In a time when resources are stretched thin, your generosity has lightened our load and allowed us to focus more on what truly matters: educating and nurturing the bright young minds of the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cuevas

  • Markers, Crayons and Pencils, Oh My!

    Funded Feb 25, 2021

From everyone one of us in room 207, thank you dearly for your generosity. Because of your bountiful donation, we are able to create art masterpieces at school! Our illustrations have been improved tenfold because of the drawing utensils you've supplied like markers, crayons and colored pencils. They also have a home now with our new school boxes. The images we have in our minds are coming to life and jumping off the pages in our journals! Without you, our rainbow-like ideas would be dull black, gray and white etches.

We can't wait to use the post-its while reading and annotating texts and sharing our ideas with our peers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cuevas

  • Charged Up

    Funded Dec 22, 2020

We have unboxed our chargers and charging cables and we are finally ALL CHARGED UP because of your gracious giving to our little learners. My students walk into class with a lighter stride and extra pep in their step because their iPads and tablets are charged, thus encouraging them to learn and lead their inquiries.

Today we were reviewing the Civil Rights Movement and one of my students inquired if Ruby Nell Bridges, the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis, was still alive. I then reminded her that her iPad was charged because of her new charger and charging cable and she eagerly researched for herself. She came to find that Ruby Bridges is indeed still alive and residing in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The joy that came across my student's face when she remembered that her device had a charge struck me with the utmost delight for her to research for herself and explore a topic that intrigued her.

This is just one example of the many moments we have in class now. My students can now freely explore academic topics of interest on their devices because their devices are charged. Your generosity is literally fueling our curious minds by the minute!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cuevas

My students are so excited to learn every day, but many are without chargers at home to charge their technology devices. Thus, leaving them unprepared for class. With your generosity, my students will be able to charge their electronic devices and be successful in class! We currently only have three chargers in class for 17 face-to-face students. With the charging cables and power adapters, my first and second graders will be able to charge their devices whenever needed and be prepared for class. We would be ever grateful for the additional charging cables and adapters!
