Who likes to sit in a hard chair for 6 hours a day?! Not me - I am constantly switching up my location in my classroom and I decided that my students should have the opportunity to have a variety of seating options as well - such as using portable floor desks, backed floor chairs, wobble seats while they use my makeshift standing desks, stools, and BIG JOE (I know he will be a welcomed member of the classroom)!
I decided that I'd take on the challenge of introducing flexible seating this year and I sure was nervous - but my students assured me that all my worrying was a waste. They are crushing it! It has been a wonderful addition to my classroom, however, since I was funding the seating options, I wasn't able to pick the very best options. Some things were found in yard sales and whatnot, which provided me the opportunity to test this out, while on my own budget, but may not be the best quality.
Only having been in school for 2 months, I am noticing, that regardless of my students using the seating properly, it's not holding up so well. I was hesitant to reach out to others for help, as I try to do most things on my own, but I have seen so much success with this site, that I'd love to give it a try (if you don't ask, you'll never know - right?). PLEASE know that by helping, you are helping me continue giving my students the opportunity to learn independence, how to make good choices, and that the classroom shouldn't be a dreaded learning environment (as for some - this is their safe space).
Thank you xx Ms. Cronin & Students
