  • New Year - New Goals!

    Funded Jan 12, 2023

There has been a big shift in education in the past years with a focus on technology. Our school has adapted two programs that students use for math and reading. Both programs begin with a placement test, then identifies the students exact strengths and deficits. This allows students to work on the skills that they need as an individual to succeed in second grade.

Since receiving our new headphones my students have grown significantly! They are able to focus on exactly what the task at hand is asking them. They've also mentioned how these headphones help drown out the sounds around our classroom! I've attached pictures of our growth charts to you can see the impact this project has had! Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

  • Fostering a Love of Reading

    Funded Sep 24, 2022

This project was for the struggling readers in my class. I have a large range of reading abilities in my room, and my classroom library had mostly books that were on grade level or beyond. With your help I was able to purchase books that focused on high frequency words and lower level phonics skills. These are foundational skills readers need to be successful! I also chose texts that were of high interest. My struggling readers were eager to fill their book boxes with the new books - and were swapping books and partner reading with joy! Thank you again for helping build their reading skills - and their confidence!”

  • Social Emotional Learning Matters!

    Funded Jul 14, 2022

I would like to thank you again for donating to my social emotional wellness project. This year has been incredibly eye opening for me. I've always known the importance of social emotional learning, but with the demands and deadlines of following the curriculum I've always felt like I didn't have enough time. I made the choice to start slow and used the resources from this project to explicitly teach emotions, calming strategies, which all have lead to a strong classroom community.

It was been incredible to see my students applying these strategies on a daily basis. Our calming corner is filled with a variety of tools for them to use when they're having big feelings. The language that is being used among students is positive, kind, and encouraging. We even have a daily affirmation that is from one of the books from this project that we say every morning!

When I explained to my students that people from all over the country donated to our classroom they squealed with joy. They feel so loved and supported knowing that people want to help us. I would not have been able to provide them with these resources without your help. I am forever grateful for the kind and generous people in my life!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

  • Tools to Build a Strong Classroom Community

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

I would like to thank you again for donating to our classroom. The group of students in my class have never had a "normal" school year. Their earliest years of elementary school were drastically changed by COVID and your donations have helped us transition tremendously.

My most recent project had a variety of materials - all helpful in different ways. The most exciting item purchased was our rug. We had a countdown til they day it arrived and even practiced our rug routines before it was here! We have spent every morning sharing stories, having discussions, and building our community on the rug. I can't quite put into words how important it is to us.

We also use the other materials every day - from read alouds to durable plastic envelopes keeping 25 second graders organized - we appreciated every cent that was donated to our class!

Thank you again from being so generous and helping the kids of Fall River!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

  • Flexible ( 6 Feet Apart ) Seating!

    Funded Dec 12, 2020

Thank you again for donating to our classroom! Covid restrictions have taken away a lot of student choice. These flexible seating options have provided students with the opportunity to work out of their seat - which is huge for them! We can also easily sanitize them in between students.

The bins that were donated were once used to organize our desk materials, but now are filled with books! My students love having their book boxes filled each week.

We really appreciate you generosity. Thank you from 2C!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

  • Germ Free Tools for Success

    Funded Sep 5, 2020

We can't thank you enough for funding our project. This year has been different than anything we've ever experienced, but the materials you provided for our classroom have kept us germ free and prepared!

My students were amazed when I told them that people donated to our class to keep us healthy and safe during the pandemic. They couldn't believe strangers, to them at least, wanted to protect them!

We are currently learning from home again, but I was able to send home tool kits for each student to have at home. The students in my class come from various backgrounds, and many families need extra help - with things like crayons, glue sticks, and scissors. Your donations are the gifts that keep on giving!

Thank you so so much for helping us out - we truly appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

  • Little Learners Love Literacy

    Funded Aug 6, 2018

My students and I would like to thank you again for donating to our classroom. We have been in school for 40 days so far, and we have used the materials you purchased for us each and every day! My students use these materials during daily literacy centers. They choose which materials work best for them and practice spelling, writing, and reading. All of my students look forward to using these materials. They are constantly engaged, happy, and growing each day. We couldn't have done it without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Connors

This year I will be implementing the Daily 5 in my first grade classroom. The 5 components are: Read To Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Word on Writing, and Listen to Reading. This literacy program supports student development by allowing students to choose materials that work best for them. Students rotate through these centers building their independence and focus. While students work independently or with a partner, I work with small reading groups. This method allows students to have an abundant time to practice reading and writing with choice and purpose. It also allows for me to work with students in small groups to help them reach their individual goals. These materials will help us stay organized and give students hands-on tools to be successful readers and writers! The materials on my wishlist will be used for Word Work, Read to Self, and Read to Someone. Students will learn how to pick a book that fits their academic level and their interest. They will collect these books in their book boxes, read them every day, and change the books out throughout the year as they grow. The book boxes I have requested are durable and will last multiple years! The magnets, Play Doh, beads, and stamps will allow students to physically build and practice our spelling and high frequency words. The storage cart is to help keep these materials organized and easily accessible to students!
