  • Comfortable While Learning

    From the bottom of my heart and the hearts of my wonderful students, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for answering my prayers and funding this project. My class was in need of new desks and chairs. My students deserve to learn in a comfortable environment.

    My students use the desks and chairs on a daily basis. We use them when we work in whole groups and also in small groups. Because the desks are mobile, we are able to separate into even smaller groups. The feedback has been great, both from the students and colleagues. They are so proud of my accomplishment of being able to advocate for my students. My students were super excited when they saw the new pieces of furniture. Their reactions were, "Wow, Ms. Cato, this is great." I shared with them how I was able to get this new furniture.

    My next step for my students is to continue to work in small groups. As mentioned before, the ability to move these desks around, because they are on wheels, gives the students the ability to unlock the wheels easily and move to smaller groups.”

  • Getting Interactive While Reading

    As we all know, it has been a rough year and a half.

    Gladly, I am elated to report that my students have now been utilizing the fire tablets. We have been using it to watch interactive videos on youtube to help strengthen our phonics skills. We have also been using it to read interesting books and articles and answering comprehension questions. We are using it to watch read-aloud online.

    Students were so happy that there is a tool in the classroom that they can hold in their hands and use, sometimes individually and other time as a small group.

The tablets that I am requesting will be beneficial to my students because they are tactile learners who enjoy using materials and items that they can touch. There are many educational apps that are free downloadables that can be used in my classroom. I am the Special Education Teacher Support Service (SETTS) teacher in my school. I do either pull-outs or push-ins to classrooms to assist students with Reading, Writing, and Math needs. Most of my students in K-3rd are struggling with reading. Most are reading below grade level. I have noted that my students do better when lessons are interactive, and when they can make text to world connections. Most of my students are well versed in using technology at home, but I would be grateful if I am awarded these materials so that we can be engaged and interactive in school while learning. Currently, we are working on mastering the alphabet, letter sounds, blending, and decoding gade appropriate words. Upper-grade students are working on reading comprehension and vocabulary. These materials will be very instrumental in our daily sessions to help meet the goals of all of my students.
