Thank you for considering donating to my project! This August, I will be starting my first year of teaching in 2nd grade. Many of the students at my school are English language learners, primarily coming from Spanish-speaking homes. I am asking for donations to get tablets and diverse books to start my classroom library. Diverse books and access to online texts will give all of my students the opportunity to access reading materials. Having books written in languages that my students speak, with characters that reflect them, will help with inclusion and create a positive atmosphere in our classroom. Having tablets will help my students independently access reading materials and audiobooks to build their skills as readers. I want students to feel invited to read by having access to literature at any reading level. My students deserve to be represented in their environments, and culturally relevant materials that reflect them are a first step into building our classroom together.
