Scholars believe that students need hands-on work and manipulation to grasp many of the abstract concepts of mathematics. I plan on using the file folder games, Smath and mastering math games in math centers during small group instruction (known as Tier 2). Although it is true that there are many different learning styles, I can conclude that all students love to play games and get out of the monotony of the traditional ways we were raised in. I plan on using the traditional games and decks of cards in small groups on free choice Friday, a built in reward system where students can pick the activity of choice if they have satisfactorily completed all of their assignment during the week. I will use the wipe board and markers during whole group instruction to informally assess the level of understanding of the lesson.
Learning has evolved from stationary to a dynamic engaging activity. Teaching styles have also evolved from lecturers to facilitators. I want to provide my students with the tools that will make their learning more digestible and get them excited about coming to school each day. I want to facilitate their learning and not bore them with teacher-centered activities, I want my students to have control over their own learning and guide them to reach their potential. I want my students to succeed. This project will help me push my students to do better and spark their interest in learning.
