  • Classroom Carpet Needed!

    Funded Mar 2, 2018

Thank you so much for your generosity. The students are so incredibly thankful for the donation. The carpet allows us to complete so many learning activities that were otherwise impossible or, at the very least, uncomfortable. We use the classroom carpet every morning during our Morning Meeting routine. During this routine, each student is greeted by at least two students or teachers. They get to share about their weekend, or something special. We also complete a fun activity to get ready for the day. We complete the calendar and weather routine.

When the students walked into the classroom after the rug was delivered, they lit up with joy. They could not believe that they no longer had to sit uncomfortably on the cement floor. They were so excited and wanted to know where the rug came from and how we got it!

Thank you again for your kindness. The students are working very hard to keep the rug in new condition!”

  • Document Camera Needed!

    Funded Dec 21, 2015

Thank you so much for your generosity! Your donation has helped my students in a variety of ways. They were so touched by the fact that complete strangers would be so giving for students that they have never met. It was, first of all, an excellent lesson, as they learned about sharing and kindness, even among strangers.

The funds you provided were utilized to purchase a document camera, which hooks up to a projector and a computer. This document camera allows items to be broadcast and shared on the large projector screen so that all students can view it. We use this document camera in many ways. Mainly, the document camera is used for math instruction. Each day students are provided with a problem they must try their best to solve independently. Students volunteer to share their work, and using the document camera allows them to show their problem to the whole class. Students also solve problems and explain their work to students using the document camera as well. This also allows me to model problems and teach mathematical skills daily.

The document camera is also used for writing instruction. Student work samples are displayed and discussed. This allows the class to discuss common writing mistakes and the criteria for success. Students also practice revision and editing strategies as a whole class by using the document camera. Additionally, this technology allows me to share an otherwise-limited resource, such as books that I may not have enough of in order for each student to use it.

Again, we thank you for your generosity and kindness. It has positively impacted my students and their success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nogueira

My students live in an urban, high-poverty neighborhood. They attend the community school where they all receive free breakfast, and free or reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are learning English as a second language. Many others are homeless or live in public housing. My students face many challenges and obstacles in their everyday lives; however, they still arrive at school each day excited to learn and craving the school day's structure and routine. I strive to build a classroom that is a safe, nurturing environment for my students to learn, explore, and take academic risks!
