I have students that don't complain about their headphones instead they love them. They are focused and enjoy listening to their assignment. Having wireless headphones will help my students use the iPad in the classroom without disrupting their classmates. They were able to use their headphones for their daily work on iReady Math, and other websites with our classroom iPad. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Funded May 2, 2021wow!!!! I am truly grateful for all the support you have provided my students. Because of you, I was able to use discussion protocols in order for my students to engage in learning. My students said they love working in groups they missed talking to other students. I made sure that they were safe and following safe distance in order to keep them safe. My students were having enrichment conversations, asking questions, facilitating discussions, and especially having fun! they used it for math, coding, science, and now it was expanded for ELA!!!! wow. Engaging Students in Learning, teachers need to provide engaging opportunities, promote teamwork, use engaging materials, and give students time to reflect on their learning. Thank you so much for all your generosity.”

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Is something I want to emphasize in my classroom. You have made this possible with the help of the laptop and 3d pen. My students were able to create presentations with these tools that expand access to STEM education, strengthen and diversify the science and technology workforce, and amplify underrepresented and marginalized voices within STEM. They were able to create presentations to empower their identity, but also their education and school community. Thank you so much for having a strong impact in my students education.”

Funded Mar 23, 2021WOW! what a wonderful experience we have had with this amazing opportunity Connecting computer science to service learning is a powerful engagement tool, especially for girls and boys. I was able to engage students by showing them clips of how Flor Larson uses computer science to keep our country safe and how Natalie Evans-Harris uses computer programming to bring together a diversity of thoughts and opinions. I think the interview with Afua Bruce when she says she uses "technology and data science to improve community and in service of humanity" will resonate with students who want to make a difference but may have never considered a STEM career.
My students were able to research and create projects motivated by innovative women who made their mark in science, technology, engineering and math.”

Funded Mar 14, 2021Thank you for your generosity and helping to realize this project. This project has definitely tapped into my students' curiosity and love of learning by providing materials to help them learn content and skills in different content areas such as science, English language arts, and art. This project has also provided the materials for us to begin a long-term project that centers around learning about women in STEM, integrating different content areas and fostering creativity in my students--a project that we have started this past semester and we will continue after our winter break.
When my students first received their materials, there was a lot of questions about the items in the purple ziplock storage container--What's that roll of tape? Why is it shiny? What are those little colored thingies? What's that thing that looks like clay? What are we going to do with these things? When will we use them? They were each excited to learn that they would get to keep all the items given, even if they didn't know what these items were. There were also a lot of questions about the other materials and the handouts they received that were part of this project.
Needless to say my students were super excited to use the copper tape, coin batteries and LED lights to learn about and build circuits. My students were excited and were completely engaged as they learned how to use these materials to make a simple and a parallel circuit.
To help them learn how to do research and write informational text, I tapped into my students love of learning about animals. This led to writing about and doing art, applying techniques they learned, to share their learning of their animal of their choice. Prior to going on break, my students were introduced to Dr. Jane Goodall, her work on chimpanzees, and how she changed the way scientists study animals in their habitats; I had a read aloud and other activities planned so they were able to learn about Dr. Goodall as a young girl with a dream to work in Africa, and her journey to becoming who she is.
I want my students to learn and understand that Dr. Goodall's out-of-the-box thinking became very important to the work she accomplished when she first began her work in Africa. These activities will then hopefully set the stage to learn about other women in STEM, such as Ana Maria Porras and Yamilee Toussant Beach, and how they are using their creativity in their work and how they teach others about their work.
We receive the IF/THEN posters which have helped in incorporating these into our upcoming work as we complete this project.
Thank you, again, for helping us make the best of our learning situation as we learn this year. I truly believe that it is important for young children, girls to feel empowered, to see women as scientists, so my girls can follow their dreams grow up to be part of a more accepting and inclusive in fields that historically are male-dominated. Tapping into my students loves and interests and then fostering their creativity are also important to this process, and I am so grateful for you. Because you believe in my students and because of your generosity, my students were given items and supplies that do these activities--Items that they would not have received otherwise. Items that are being used for many activities throughout this school year.”
