• Technology and Music

  Thank you so much for your very generous donation of the Midi keyboard. The kids are having a blast using MIdi for the first time. They are adding beats and creating their own little songs! The technology aspect is going to be so helpful for them in the future as music continues to become more and more technological. The good thing about it as well is that it can also play like a traditional keyboard. As I keep adding more files to the Midi, the children will be able to continue their journey of creation.”

• Clean Music Supplies

  Thanks to your generous donations, the children will be able to continue practicing piano in a germ-free environment. They thoroughly wash headphones before using as they are shared and anyone who has been in a classroom knows how quickly lice can spread. Thanks to you, the kids (and parents) won't have to worry about this.

  Every class period, we learn a new song for the piano and then the children have the opportunity to practice it on the keyboards. Without these wipes, I would have had to limit their exposure to the keyboards which would not have afforded them enough time to practice. Learning any new instrument is hard, so practice is essential for their success.

  You are all so appreciated and "A NYC Parent", thank you for matching people's donations. I don't know who you are, but I know that parents like you make all the difference in children's education.”

• Classical Music is a Must

  As we begin our exploration of classical music, as the children are learning Ode to Joy on the keyboards, these books are providing the older and younger kids alike the means to learn about famous composers in a fun and engaging way.

  Between the beautiful graphics, the story told in age-appropriate ways, and the "press here" buttons where they can take a short listen to the passages discussed, the children are loving the stories. In the meantime, they are learning about such masterpieces as the Four Seasons and the Carnival of the Animals.

• Podcasting Station

  Thank you to all the donors and The Gates Foundation for funding this project. Teaching music and theater, podcasting is a great way to get the children excited to speak and will enable them to really learn the future of the media.

  Many of my children are English Language Learners and this allows them all a platform to practice speaking in their native languages and English. It really gives them a safe space where they know they will not be judged for mistakes. They were so excited when I introduced them to the machines.

• A Carpet for My Classroom

  Thank you so much The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation for the beautiful carpet donation to my classroom. The exact one was out of stock but thanks to your generosity I found another one that is perfect for my students.

  When the class came in and saw the rug, they were so excited to have a comfortable place to seat themselves. They even used the rug to point to where notes go on the staff. Not only useful, but educational as well.

  It is thanks to foundations like yours that teachers are not held responsible to personally finance our classrooms. The city's budget is so low that there is little extra for things like carpets or supplies. It is so greatly appreciated, you will never know how much.”
