Creatively Coding Together
Funded Dec 17, 2017WOW! Thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to really engage my students. They are so excited by these resources, and when using them, their excitement is extremely contagious. Students were working together to figure out what to do with the Wonder Dash, and taking turns troubleshooting any issues that would arise. They are so excited by the ability to record their voice and have the Wonder Dash play it back. Students who may struggle with reading and writing were really engaged in a way that I have not seen before and truly taking the time to figure things out. It is so exciting to see my students so engaged and looking forward to when they can continue their work with not only the Wonder Dash but the Lego Mindstorm as well. They are already planning how they would do things differently for next time, and all the different things they want this technology to do. Students are also really excited to compete with one another and truly show off their skills as they make their robots complete different obstacles. I am so excited to be a part of this learning. Thank you again, because without your support, this work would not have been possible.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you so much for your support. These materials have truly made a difference in the classroom. Students are extremely grateful to have snacks, cleaning supplies, and air fresheners. Students enjoy having snacks during independent reading time; no longer are they worried that a quiet classroom will reveal a growling stomach. These snacks have added a level of excitement and community with students getting a chance to share with one another. We are also able to keep our snacks safe from rodents with the use of the plastic totes which is perfect for ensuring that the snacks are for students and not the mice.
The disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizers have been a great help with keeping tables and hands clean, especially with it being the flu season. Additionally, students enjoy the air freshener at the doorway of the classroom and have commented while walking in how much better the class smells.
Thank you again so much for these much needed materials. They are making a huge difference.”

Funded Dec 9, 2017Thank you for the resources! Having the bluetooth speaker has made such a difference not only in being able to hear the workout videos, but also any video/audio materials shown in class. This resource has truly made students access information so much easier-they can hear what they are seeing! What a great help.
Being able to connect either my phone or Ipad has been extremely helpful as well. I am able to download videos or access videos at home and view these videos offline in my class and connect to the projector. As was the case with the yoga videos that my students used to work out. The stop watches have been put to use both indoors and outdoors. Students are able to time their laps when running. As well as using the stopwatches at their desk for group work time on task. In fact, students now ask for the stopwatches and use it to time themselves or their classmate when doing group work activities.
Thank you so much for your generosity and allowing these much needed resources become part of our everyday learning.”

Funded Dec 8, 2017Thank you so much for these much needed resources. My students are truly thankful to know that if they are hungry, they can stop by my class for a Nutri-Grain bar/fruit snack or bag of Chex Mix; or while working on their classwork and need a little motivation there are Goldfish; healthy chips, and fruit snacks to keep them going before lunch.
My students and I really appreciate that there are people out there like yourself who understand the work that we do. My students are blown away that someone that they have never met is willing to look out for them and cares whether or not they have something to eat.
Thank you for your generosity and for helping to eliminate the: "I can't focus because I didn't eat breakfast"-statement that some of my students have used in the past. These resources have truly changed how my students interact with one another and with their work. No more "hangry" students.”

Funded Aug 27, 2017Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are still so excited by what it means to have these materials, and what it enables them to do and create. Thus far, they have really taken to the Micro:bit and creating all different types of projects -some which include, but are not limited to, sensors, movement trackers as well as light readings. Additionally, students are really excited to start with Lego robotics and cannot wait to start coding their robots.
With the use of these materials, students were able to expand their coding to creating apps that centered around fitness and health awareness for them and their families. My students were also given the opportunity to work together, collaborate, problem solve, and respectfully disagree with each other in a manner that was fruitful, productive and creative.”

Funded Sep 21, 2017Thank you so much. My students are so excited to have the addition of the printer in the class. They love being able to type up their work and having their work printed out for them. As much as we think that students are used to staring and perhaps preferring a screen to look at, when it comes to their work, they want their work in front of them-in their hands to reread and make corrections on. Many of my students have shared how much they enjoyed taking their work home for their parents to see. Many of my students do not have computer access at home, therefore having their work typed and printed allows for them to show off their work to their families who otherwise would not be able to see their classwork.
My English language learners are especially excited to show off their work to their families. For many, who are newcomers to the United States, seeing their work in print is novel. Their excitement to take their work home is endearing and further enforces how much my students value their education and their connection to home.
The use of the printer will continue to enhance the work we are doing and already students are eager to have their creative writing Greek myths printed out and I know as we moved through our various units they will continue to be excited about seeing their work in print.”

Funded Oct 31, 2016Thank you so much for the opportunity to bring Makey Makey into the classroom. The students enjoyed being able to connect different objects to the Makey Makey and create their own short cut versions to games that they already play. This resource allowed for students to engage with technology in a manner that they have not done before. They were taking ownership of something that is already created to make their own version. It was so thrilling to see my students work together to trouble-shoot issues that arose, and they did so in respectfully and with patience toward one another.
Students who do not always excel in English language arts were reading through the manual with not only comprehension, but with a through understanding of what needed to be done as next steps to get the Makey Makey to fully work. This technology allows my students who sometimes struggle with ELA and math to feel a sense of pride because they are engaged and the hands-on component allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment that they sometimes do not get in their other classes.
We are excited to continue to explore the different ways we can creatively utilize Makey Makey in the classroom.”

Funded Nov 22, 2016Thank you for the wonderful books: Paint by Stickers. My students are truly enjoying taking the time and creating art via stickers. I am seeing them focused; engaged, having fun, and most of all- taking pride in their final work. Students are expressing such confidence when they are done, with many students saying that they are going to hang it on their walls at home. Some students have expressed how engaging in this activity has allowed them to forget their stress.
The fact that through your generosity, my students are for a brief moment escaping their worries is so powerful. These materials are allowing for an escape, allowing for confidence to be built, and the habit of focus to be instilled. My students cannot wait to show off their current work, and are constantly looking forward to when they can work on their next one.”

Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you so much for the variety of games that through your generosity we were able to bring into our classroom. Students are so excited to interact and play with the different games. I am noticing a different level of engagement outside of "Board Room" time. Students are expressing themselves in a more creative manner and are drawing upon their play experiences. A particular moment that stands out is seeing how a group of students went from being competitive against one another to rallying behind each other and cheering each other on even though it was a competitive game. The sense of camaraderie that is being built is amazing to see.
My students were and are still so excited by the wealth of materials available. There are so many games that students have seen on T.V. or heard about and have never played. I love being able to expose them to so many great games, as well as watching them interact with one another. These materials are still so new to many of them, so there is always excitement during game rotation, and even students who are used to one game are still excited to play it because each time they play- they claim that have a "new strategy" to win.
Now, that my students feel more comfortable in a social setting, I would love to get my students to think more along STEM learning. I am thinking of how to make the use of technology more hands-on and interactive. My students are showing comfort in learning along side one another, encouraging one another even when it goes against the game set-up, respectfully communicating frustrations, and just learning to be more comfortable with each other; I know we are ready for more. Perhaps working on them building their own game. However, we would have never been able to get to this point without the generous donation of board games to our classroom. We are so grateful and excited to continue playing and learning at the same time.”
