EcoSTEM Pollinator Kit for Budding 2nd Grade Engineers
Funded Mar 9, 2016We greatly appreciate receiving this STEM Pollinator Kit for our second grade engineers. It was packed full of tools and materials to get every child hands on and learning about the connection between pollination and people. In our NGSS Life Science unit, we study the main question: How do living things work together to survive and help each other in a habitat? Students learn about what plants need to survive and thrive, how seeds disperse and travel to create new plants, how animals and plants depend on each other, and the importance of pollination and how it works.
This kit included plenty of materials to get our students gardening(gloves, shovels, seeds) as well as insect viewers, binoculars, mini hand microscopes, and a butterfly habitat! We have shared these materials with the other second grade classes at our school and 100 students have been impacted with this project! We have planted the milkweed seeds in our butterfly/pollinator garden plot as well as the other flower and herb seeds. Students will get to see pollination in action once our caterpillars transform into butterflies.
Part of our STEM standards are for students to design and test their own hand pollinator. We are doing this in class and then taking our prototypes outside to see if they work with our real flowers! Thank you so much for enhancing our STEM curriculum and getting our students fully engaged and excited about life science!”

Funded Jan 31, 2012I cannot thank you enough for your support of this laptop project. With a higher number of computers in the classroom now, each student gets more time to practice their skills and expand their knowledge with the use of technology. The laptops are the number one choice when we work in centers. Students are motivated and excited about learning even more about their topics.
Technology is ever expanding, faster than we can keep up with! Getting up to date computers in the hands of elementary students is key to prepare them for success in our ever advancing world.
Due to horrendous budget cuts in education, we are extremely hard pressed to get any new or up-to-date materials, let alone computers. Without the generous support from donors, we would not be able to serve our students adequately. Your generosity and kindness is amazing and sincerely appreciated!”

Funded Jan 2, 2012Our reading center is now a colorful, comfy, inviting place thanks to your donations! The bright carpet in the perfect size to fit in our library corner. The literacy genres depicted on the rug help remind the students about the variety of stories and text available. The bright bean bag chairs attract students to grab a book and settle down to enjoy the art of reading for pleasure. All the students love taking turns on the seat cushions as well. When they are using one, it is a signal to others: "Don't bother me, I'm reading!"
With increasingly busy day to day lives and all the distractions kids are bombarded with, there is often little time for them to simply sit down with a book! I strongly encourage this in my classroom. With your generous donations, it makes it possible for our class to have a jazzed up classroom reading corner that students are eager to visit and spend time relaxing and reading great books!
Thanks a million!”
